Description
Superman in flight! For those Superman fans who are too young to know this, Superman use to say something like "UP, UP, AND AWAY!" before he leaped into the air to fly. I think that was started by Superman voice actor Clayton "Bud" Colyier who was Superman on Radio in the 1940's. Since of course there was no way to see Superman flying on the radio, that phrase was used so that the boys & girls who listened to the program knew that the Man of Steel was about to take off. The phrase was used again in the 1948 when actor Kirk Alyn played Superman for the 2 movie serials. The phrase was dropped when George Reeves starred in "The Adventures of Superman", but it returned when Bud Colyier returned to voice Superman in the 1960's in the old Filmation Superman cartoons. It also was briefly heard in the 1973 first season of Super Friends when voice actor Danny Dark voiced Superman, but was dropped in later seasons of the cartoons and was never used again. It really didn't make sense for Superman to say that on TV when you could see him flying. Anyway that's what this art is about.
