Description
This was the last of the Tolkien portraits I did. the project involved 2 small illustrations, one a rougher black and white value study, one a more finished color. This is the large color illustration.
I feel that it was just too large for a watercolor beginner like me. Things change when you move up to a larger surface. It loses the life of the shorter strokes.
I was pretty upset that this didn't turn out as well as the smaller one, and I never finished it. His hair, and the lettering in the border are unpainted, and the ring looks too fat and strange.
Am I being over-critical?
