Description Day 18!

Ugh, I really hate the expressions on these two.  They were supposed to be awestruck expressions, but they look really dumb to me.

Ah oh well.

These characters are Bog the Mudwing, and Scorpion the Sandwing.  They are Mesa's parents.

And this whole drawing is pretty much a recreation of that one scene from 'Gnomeo and Juliet' when the titular characters meet for the first time.  Bog and Scorpion have a similar Romeo and Juliet style story (love at first sight, come from families that disapprove of the union, die at the end) so I thought it was appropriate.  And I freaking love this movie.  I find it really funny and I love the two leads and their chemistry.  I feel like the movie gets memed a lot, but I genuinely love it so much.  And I feel like the movie stays pretty true to the actual play while at the same time being completely different.  I also love all the little Shakespeare references in it.

And the lyrics in the picture are from "Hello, Hello" by Elton John, which was written for the movie.  Honestly one of my favorite Elton John songs.

Anyway to actually talk about the characters a little, Bog is a Mudwing Prince and Scorpion is a Sandwing princess.  Scorpion goes to the Mud Kingdom to do some diplomatic work, and she meets Bog while walking around the gardens at the Mud Palace.  They hit it off instantly, connecting through their similar interest in plants and gardening.  Not long after, they announce to their families that they would like to court each other.  However, both their families forbid it because any dragonets they have would 'taint' the royal bloodline (any female dragonets that they have would also be eligible for either throne too).  So the two decide to run away together, leaving their royal lives behind.  They decide to settle in Sanctuary.  Scorpion's older sister Queen Saguaro is furious.  Queen Everglade (Bog's sister) is saddened.  She didn't want him to marry the Sandwing, but she also didn't want him to leave.

Bog and Scorpion live happily together in Sanctuary for about a year.  They build a house with a little garden.  Scorpion also lays an egg and buries it in their garden (affectionately calling her egg their little seed that will someday grow into a beautiful flower).

Then an assassin breaks into their house and kills both of them.

Not long afterward, Queen Everglade receives word that her brother's body was found.  She rushes to Sanctuary.  Wanting to honor her brother, she buries Bog and Scorpion side by side in their garden.  While doing so, she finds their egg.  Though this was the exact outcome that she didn't want, she decides to take the egg and raise it herself out of love for her brother.  And she does so, naming their dragonet Mesa.  Everglade isn't the most affectionate dragon, but she genuinely comes to love her niece, even if she didn't always show it.

And when Mesa grows up, she becomes determined to find the assassin that killed her parents and find out who ordered it.

So Bog and Scorpion fall in love in a Romeo and Juliet style story, and then their daughter wants to avenge them in a Hamlet style story.
