Description
Hey everyone! So, I was looking through my old computer and found this pic (left) and decided to redraw it. I changed her design a bit because time has passed; therefore, both the girl in drawing and I have changed. I hope you like it! Back in 2013, I barely drew anything digitally and didn't understand how use my tablet despite having it for 2 years. I had always used school as an excuse not to draw... I shouldn't do that (even though I still do) I'm going to keep drawing and improving though! (despite school)

-I'm trying to build a buffer because I end up not posting for months. I'm trying to make it at least once a week (videos too)

You have improved a lot since that 2013 drawing!Β Your grasp of color and shading have grown especially.

This is very nice. There has been a very obvious improvement, and you should be very proud of that I do have a question for you though. Where exactly is the light coming from? It appears to be coming from the right (her left), but it appears to be coming from a completely different direction on her left shoulder (her right). Also, the hair appears to be a little lifeless when it's up against the rest of the body. Β That said, I very much prefer the colour palette you chose this time around, as well as the style and her costume. It makes her look more mature, and much cooler in my opinion.

You can definitely see that you've improved. The lines are much more solid and flow more nicely and the coloring and shading you apply now is very well done! A bit of constructive critisism I have is that you may want to avoid sharpness in your lines. That means to say, the hair doesn't look very natural but instead looks a little stiff. Other than that, you've come so far and I just know you can continue to grow even further!

Wow they are both really cute! But there is definitely an improvement. You added shading in this one and it looks fabulous. The hair colour look like a twist of fire. It is really awesome!!! >.< ^-^

Dropping in from
First of all, I can see so much amazing improvement over the two years! The colors, the anatomy, the shading, just everything.
Okay, constructive criticism.Β The first thing that I noticed is that the way she holds her left (our right) arm is a little bit awkward. I know there's a lot of temptation to let the arm hang behind the body (I do that myself sometimes even though I shouldn't), but I tried to imitate her pose myself and if I just let my arms relax, they both end up hanging just in front of my body. In fact, they were just a bit closer to my body than her right (our left) arm is. But since she looks like she's striking a dramatic pose, she's probably broadening her shoulders, in which case her right arm is perfect as it is.
The only other thing I noticed is that her head looks a bit long and pointy. I know it's anime style, which is supposed to have pointy chins, but in this picture it's actually small enough that it's making her eyes bug out.
Other than those small issues, this is a really great picture, and definitely an enormous improvement from two years ago. Keep up the great work!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate the feedback
I really was trying to avoid the other arm initially because I was very unsure of the pose, and supposed to be slightly turned (it did not turn out that way due to shading and perspective not working out).
Thanks for notifying me of the chin affecting the eyes thing!
Once again, thank you! Β

Hiyo! I'm popping over here from ProjectComment !
This is really cool! I can see where you've had a lot of improvement already in the past two years. Trust me, nothing does better for artwork than steady practice. The saying, "If you don't use it, you lose it," holds true (to some extent) in art. I went on a hiatus and often think of my older work as better than what I do now, but I'm gradually getting my work back up to par. Anywho! Enough on me, back on focus:
As I said, I see a lot of improvement between the two already. In general, your grasp of anatomy and shading has improved (the old one is very flat) and your linework has improved by leaps and bounds (from a sketch to something that looks properly inked!). Her color palette has changed too and I believe the colors you've chosen - whether it was intentional or not - are more complimentary (the darker blue to the orange-yellow contrast well).
That said, there is always room for further improvement! The shadows add a lot of movement and interest to her clothing in the new image (and my comments will refer to it from this point on unless noted). Her hair by comparison is still a little flat and could use some indications that it is hair - maybe some long lines to look like strands through some shadow areas. Also on her hair, I've noticed your light source seems to come from the front/above, and it lacks any shadows underneath the ponytail, which contributes some to its flatness.
I've avoided commenting on her anatomy because it's Anime and I realize how stylized Anime can be, but there are a couple small things: her chin is extremely pointy, even by Anime standards I think! The little hard point on the end could stand to be rounded. Also, I would encourage you to study and look at hands some more! You're not entirely afraid of drawing them (I can see one! ) but the other is still very hidden... I know it's not Anime-style, but I found this tutorial helpful:
Having an idea of what some moves like and looks like in real life is really helpful for stylizing.
I really hope I was helpful.

Thank you very much for you're help!
Yeah, when I was drawing it, I was really struggling with the coloring for the hair. The shading for the hair was different from the clothes because it was more soft shaded than the other parts...
Looking back at it, the chin is really pointy probably because I was trying to make the chin longer compared to how I usually make chins.
I really appreciate the tutorial for hands! I did hide one because, well, I usually don't like drawing hands because they usually end up looking weird. I'll definitely try to do better
I really do appreciate the time you took to write your comment and your helpfulness!
I think your work looks very good

Thanks! This picture was actually one of the better ones. I barely finished anything in those days. Most everything else is very rough lineart lol.
By the way, I'm working on Kurapika's digital lineart now
