I have a question, What brush settings do you use to make this painting effect! It looks as if your painting were traditional!

Thank you for this step by step illustration process. I like how you got the background and how you worked on the skin tones.

I am a beginner Digital Painter so Thanks for this man.

what dpi do you use? 300 or higher?

thegryph In reply to choco-flakey [2008-04-03 21:05:52 +0000 UTC]

Yup. No reason not to, since your comp should be able to handle it, and lots of things go to print one way or another.

I think this technique is better than those that say to put solid and opaque colors everywhere and do shadows and highlights with burn and dodge tools =\ I will try it thanks.

you make it look so simple! I always expect awesome artists to use a bunch of complicated methods, but you don't

Heh. Yeah, it's just time-consuming. No complicated stuff here.

Simply put, this is awesome. It's interesting to see how you create your work.

Just wondering, how do you make the colours under the linework appear? How'd you get rid of the white?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thegryph In reply to F4I [2007-08-01 20:20:14 +0000 UTC]

I set the linework on its own layer, change it to Multiply, and then fill in my base color/paint underneath.

What a great tutorial. It's just like I was sitting in my old classroom listening to my teacher do a step-by-step on one of his pieces.

....of course that I forgot when I walked out of the classroon...this I can look at more!

Thanks. By the way, a good 'joining' of man and horse. So many people seem to get the horse body too small, or the connection seems...........awkard or unbelieveable some how. Love the twist on the torso, and muscle structure, the angle of the shoulder and how it all seems to fit together with the horse.
