Description
"The inner provinces were the most populous of all of the lands the white dragonoids controlled during their time. It consisted of 5 provinces. Elea, the southern province which was militaristically the most important, housing the majority of the empires military forces. Ianisis, the western province that was responsible for most technological advancements. Iosen, the northern province, mostly filled with swamp marshlands. Sola, the eastern province, containing arid drylands and an important place for religious activities, thanks to the vast deserts that allowed an unobstructed view of the night sky. And finally, Sesim, the central province, and the governing body of the entire empire. Around these 5 provinces existed the 12 outer provinces that were ruled by 4 counts and 8 barons, each with a province of their own which they ruled almost independently of the inner provinces thatΒwere ruled by the emperor.
Those who are aware of the story of the moon serpents know what happened to the inner provinces prior to the great war. The discovery of moon magic lead to the slow degradation of these provinces, which culminated to the unintended creation of the moon serpents. Slenasea prior to becoming one herself advocated the use and studying of moon magic to the major governing bodies, the military, the intellectuals and the faithful. The faithful few from Sola were immediately impressed by this new form of mysticism and thought it would fit well into their ceremonies that celebrated the moon. The militaristic Elea were fast to adapt moon magic as well and develop new ways of using it, both for military purposes and for the good of the society as a whole. The intellectuals of Iansis were baffled and curious about it, many of the temples and academies there dedicating their time to studying it in their vast halls. Slowly the practice spread to Sesim and Iosen as well.
The outer provinces took a more conservative stance upon the use of moon magic as during this time Slenasea had been losing popularity from the outer provinces due to her favoritism over the inner provinces, so majority of the outer provinces had taken a cautious stance against anything that came from there, albeit hiding this from Slenasea herself to the best of their ability. It is true that Slenasea herself probably intentionally delayed the spread of this magic to the outer provinces as to allow her own people to experiment with it first to avoid the outer provinces from innovating with it and turning it against her. As years went by communications between the capital Sesim and the outer provinces began to gradually stutter and die out, birthing a sense of suspense between the capital and the outer provinces. Messages were moving arduously in and out and a lot of the sluggish pace was written down as a result of bureaucracy. The tipping point was when first permanent changes caused by the practice of moon magic began to appear. Majority of the outer provinces rulers decided that this practice should be stopped before serious damage could be caused to the population.
While the outer provinces were bickering about the practice of moon magic to the deaf ears of Iansis and Sola, large changes were taking place in the capital which were spreading outwards to the surrounding provinces. Indeed Slenasea was clever to argue the main figures of the most prominent sects of the society on her side as once the moon serpents began to appear they were some of the first to transform due to being the first ones to adapt it. With their great reputation it was easy for them to convince their peers to follow them and become moon serpents themselves. However some of the prominent figures who saw what was happening shortly disappeared, either by fleeing the capital that was slowly becoming more and more fanatic or by imprisonment. The intellectuals at Ianisis tempting the people with the promise of a higher level of consciousness and the faithful few of Sola preaching the transformation as a step to becoming closer to the moon itself. While this was happening Slenasea was puppeteering the capital, which by now had become entirely silent to the outside. Slenaseas own transformation to a moon serpent threw more wood to the fire as people now saw even more legitimacy to the claims the people of Ianisis and Sola were feeding to theΒ
public.
This clearly did not sit well with the outer provinces that were already started to become more vocal of their opposition to the inner provinces and were preparing their armed forces. The outer provinces lacking in military force compared to the inner provinces began to conscript people to their newly formed army which consisted of all of the armed forces of each of the 12 outer provinces. Those who were unfortunate enough to practice moon magic in the outer provinces at this time were hunted and persecuted, often executed in grotesque displays at town centers. The rising tensions between Slenasea and the rulers of the outer provinces as well as forceful conscription and persecution of practicers of moon magic caused masses of people to seek refuge outside of the empire, rather living in primitive settlements built from sticks and stones than risk arm and leg in war. Majority of the practicers of moon magic instead decided to seek refuge from the inner provinces, an act that would lead to heavy punishment if caught, however in the inner provinces these people were of course welcomed with open arms. It was not long however until all ties with the inner province were cut and the rulers prepared for a bloody war."

... well, since this is part of well... something im working on feel it should be shared
There was a shocked pause, A small swarm of Moon serpents, HERE?! These poor creatures should only be a myth! Let alone exisitng in these old ruins. Unless...
There was a snarl, the Largest of them lunged at me and out of instinctive reflex i raised my hands to try and hopefully block the lunge. There was a moment of silence as I had hoped my barrier held. But instead my hand was touching something scaly.
It wasn't the slimy goo that I had suspected from them but felt... like my own snout. After several uneasy seconds of silence I opened my eyes, meeting the glowing Pink eyes that were just as confused. Slowly we both looked down at where I was touching and I was touching Β severely marred tip of a white snout.
With a tug from both of us my hand refused to disconnect drawing both confusion and fear as I felt... something seemingly holding the connection. Running on a gamble I threw my other hand over the first, My powers funneling into this abused creature.
As I focused, I could feel another presence fill my mind, somewhere just outside of my awareness. This... presence seemed to push my own awareness into the moon serpents, seemingly shattering whatever wards were placed by the creature.
When I 'landed', I was swarmed by a twisted landscape of old and large temples seemingly, folding upon themselves in a sort of madness inducing style.
This was the mind of a poor corrupted individual that, as i have come to suspect, was very VERY old. Clearly, this presence wanted me to see or do with this creatures and so I began to walk seeing and sensing flirting soft light around me. This, clearly was a manifestation of moon magic. When the light realized i wasn't coming towards it it faded leaving this mind in a very faint light, a focus that clearly wasn't moon magic.
After a time the small glimmer of a light grew into a poor, young, male white dragonoid huddled in a small ball, rocking back and forth sobbing appeared before me. As I looked in a cautious manner i could see that there were an occasional flirt of soft light that shot into him, causing a small scar to appear on his arm as he sobbed again, causing the twisted landscape to surge toward him them revert almost as if he was trying to hold on to something, anything just to keep his essence intact
Slowly, I reached towards the young white dragonoid, hesitant to his reaction to my own actions. Once my hand was several inches away there was a sudden twist of the dragonoid's head meeting their pale pink eyes.
He shot me a rage filled glare that slowly turned into one of tired confusion before he struggled to stand up. Clearly he was affraid of me...
"Don't be afraid, whats your name?" I asked slowly pulling my hand away.Β
"my..." He began his voice raw from what i suspected was screaming "my name is..."

Aw man I wasn't prepared to get sad first thing in the morning. Very unique interpretation of an encounter with a moon serpent, I like it that you portray them as not the absolute evil things that they may seem due to their appearance, which is something I too plan on touching at some point. Β I think the narrator character here has some magical properties? Just a word of caution however is that magic is very weak in this world, moon magic being one of the most powerful forms and which can be channeled at will, but all other forms of magic require preparation and are far more demanding. However now I am really curious who this moon serpent actually is.
I'll note you about some of the behaviors about the moon serpents that may be useful to you.

The character in question well... if that's the case is part of a well off family who has a bit of 'psionic/Telepaths' the most of their powerful stuff requires touch and the barrier of his was [going] to be more of a gut feeling that said get th hell AWAY, something that is used out of a protective panic (This is written with the narrator still learning how to do everything his family can) to be fair, a LOT of what he's doing isnt coming from him, but through him, so keep that in mind.
But i'm using the limited knowledge of the serpents so, there is that.Β

Absolutely beautiful. Even if I never really read the lore (I have little patience) this really makes me want to make a world like this.

So I am right lol. To be fair it took me a few glances of it because at first I thought it was just well done lighting (But that is true the lighting is amazing here. Probably why it took me so long to catch that detail)
But thats why i can come up with those awesome snippets (and, I love art. Would fave swamp you but, well... yeah.) I appraise and enjoy all kinds of art

Aw thanks man, I do appreciate to hear that there are some people who will do more than just take a quick glance at my works! And those tid bits and longer bits of lore and story you create are always interesting and cool and I am certain each artist to who you make those appreciate them a lot! (Also fave swamping is best kind of swamping)

well then as i see you have no issues with it... let it begin. In the process of making a HIGHLY Demanded skyrim mod and I understand Quality over Speed as such i believe the same thing with art (To put it in perspective, the Sistine Chapel took him YEARS and he was at the top of his game) So make it good before releasing something shodily made (unless its derpy sketches those are funny)

ThemeFinland In reply to Jcbq [2016-11-10 08:13:12 +0000 UTC]
Aye, however I may think a bit differently about the speed part, as usually with personal art I wont refine everything to a mere shine as that would be time consuming and I have other ideas to work on, and more importantly commissions. To me artwork is good enough when it conveys the message it is supposed to and the art style in it is coherent throughout, so it does not look like some aspects of it were clearly rushed.

true, true. Some parts of art can be quickly sketched out (Like the clouds, sky, trees, and our three 'friends' in Company I can tell their just a matte single color layer for the most part. For those poking their heads to look at this go look over there, see what I mean. it works but if you focus on it you can see it lacks a layer of detail) but like with photography you can only focus on one thing really, the rest is scenery thats kinda just... there. It works as a backdrop but thats it
(Damn it i need to use my random art research for something! LOL)

ThemeFinland In reply to Jcbq [2016-11-10 08:29:31 +0000 UTC]
Haha, this is your time to shine with your research then
Detail however is also a part of composition, we focus on things that have a high resolution of changing colors and light. Sometimes deciding not to detail something may be a conscious decision by the artist to not bring focus on something, or what usually is the case, to not steal attention from something. The medium of digital artwork also makes details a somewhat strange thing, as one could spend an infinity detailing something by just constantly increasing the canvas' resolution. I give away high-res versions of my drawings so people can have a better look at them, but the majority of them are intended to be looked at in a way that they fit on the viewers screen completely in such a way they do not need to scroll around the drawing to be able to see it fully.

Jcbq In reply to ThemeFinland [2016-11-10 08:44:19 +0000 UTC]
true, however thats also a two way street. The lack of detail if done correctly, can also draw ones eyes (Forced perspective as well see: Old Aquaintnces) Case in point here the... detail i saw. I only saw it because of the lack of local detail, and that was before i even blew it up to full screen. (I zoom in because secretly i would love to draw like this but 1. lack the funds for a decent drawing tablet and 2. can really only draw maps... soo...) The contol of a canvas' white space also does the same thing as say... an ornrate ring/crown/sword/book/ect. (Im knee deep i faving right now havent found- OH! See: forced Pacifism or any of your amalgamate stuff) If its left in such a way that causes questions from the viewer it also can control the focus. Think of it like this, you see a picture of a... well for the sky of this lets call it an angel. sure its impressive but if an artist makes it so that theres a break in the clouds above said angel instad of jut blue sky that is contolling the white space

ThemeFinland In reply to Jcbq [2016-11-10 08:53:32 +0000 UTC]
Absolutely, I think the term you are looking for however is "negative space" not "white space", just to avoid any confusion. Negative space can absolutely be used to guide the viewer and it is often just as important to leave some areas blank to make the scene or character more readable. This also factors into the weight of the scene, where you could imagine each object in the scene having a specific weight to them and it is the artists task to balance the weight of the scene in such a way that neither side, top, bottom, left or right are too overburdened, which is pretty close to the concept of composition. Of course once you grasp this you can begin to play around with weight to create scenes that look uncomfortable by simply breaking these rules.
Edit: Haha, and I can notice you are busy faving all of my stuff

Jcbq In reply to ThemeFinland [2016-11-10 08:56:39 +0000 UTC]
again, your right. and yes negative space is true, I just know it by white space. And you dont really bend the rules because as ive been taught there really inst an rules, just 'guidelines' XD
π: 0 β©: 1
ThemeFinland In reply to Jcbq [2016-11-10 09:01:58 +0000 UTC]
Hah, aye, they are sort of more like guidelines than rules, but it is important to learn them regardless if one wishes to get anywhere, once you learn how to use them you will also learn how they work and why and then you can finally cognitively bend them to your own purposes and needs.
