"Hello there! My name is Burgh! And I am the leader of the gym in this city. It's a pleasure to see you again, Iris!" Burgh said.

"Nice to see you too Burgh. This is Xander, I believe he would like to challenge your gym. Right Xander?" Iris asked.

"Hell yeah I got some steam to blow. Let's battle right now! My pokemon are fit and ready!" Xander said as his pokemon all stood by his side.

"Right now, you say? Alright little boy. Let us commence, shall we," Burgh exclaimed as he summoned his 1st pokemon - a strange scorpion.

"A bug. You're figthing me with bugs? Okay Bruno, take them down!" Xander commanded.

Bruno charged at the Whirlipede and smashed his head into Whirlipide. The odd bug smashed into the wall, unconsious from the attack.

"Whirlipede, quickly, get up!"

"Bruno, finish it!"

Bruno smashed straight through the Whirlipede, taking out it's heart. Bruno wiped the blood from his face. But before he could get congratulated on his victory he was swept from behind by a strange snail pokemon.

"No time to celebrate just yet, Dokonsa is one of my strongest pokemon and he's about to finish it," Burgh said as he snapped his fingers. Suddenly a strange claw emerged from the shadows and sliced off the head of Bruno.

"Bruno! No!" Xander shouted.

Xander stood in place, shocked from the death of his friend.

"No... it's not fair... Bruno was new to the team... and... he saved us..." Xander fell to his knees, and started to tear up.

Lilly, using her new smell abilities, killed the snail pokemon with her Magical Leaf the and Burgh laughed maniacally.

"You'll never survive in this world if you're so weak to something as little as a death, darling." Burgh laughed and sent out a tall bug pokemon he had named Crystal.

"Xander are you okay?" Okami asked her depressed trainer.

"I'm fine... but you're right, Burgh, I won't survive... but I can sure as hell try. Hephestus, let's burn," Xander said.

Hephestus sent Crystal ablaze and won the battle for his team. Yet the loss Scar faired was painful...Scar had just loss his only friend.

Xander defeated the gym leader, took his badge and left to the Desert Ruins, there he got a Darumaka he named Maki.

"He always wanted to visit this place, you know," Scar said as he and Xander stood over the new gravestone of the newly deceased Bruno.

"I'm really sorry Scar, this wasn't supposed to happen," Xander said.

"It's cool man. Now I have a reason to stick around."

"What do you mean?"

"Bruno. I will stay with you, defeat the league and protect you for the honor of my departed comrade. Let us go, shall we," Scar said.

"Yeah, let's." Xander recalled his pokemon into his pokemon and was about to leave.

"It's you again," a familiar voice said.

Behind our hero was the mysterious boy N. He was standing extremely close to Xander with a cold look on his face.5

"N! You scared the hell out of me."

"I see another one of your pokemon has died."

" Yeah. Against Burgh, if it's not gym leaders it's those freaking Plasma guys. It seems like the entire world wants to kill someone... especially Cheren."

"I understand what you mean... Xander, could you accompany me to Nimbasa city? This desert is quite boring and it'd be great to have you along as well," N said.

"Sure. Why not? It'd be fun."

"That's what you think, young trainers," said a very small and childlike voice. Without warning the sand beneath the two had fell into a dark abyss.

As the two fell to what could be their death, Cheren stood above the abyss. He had an evil grin over his face and he jumped in.

The two trainers hit the ground, their backs flared with pain. Xander clenched his teeth, trying to ease the agony. The boy got up and went to check on N.

"N, are you alright?" Xander asked.

Xander turned the boy around and fell back with shock as he saw blood on N's head
"That poor boy," Cheren said.

Xander's eyes grew wide with shock, but before he could react he was attacked by Cheren's Dewott.

A large gash spread across Xander's back, blood splattered out of his wound.4 Xander reached for Lilly's pokeball and summoned her.

"LLilly! The Dewott is right in front of you! " Xander screamed.

Lilly used Magical Leaf, landing a critical hit on the Dewott, defeating one of Cheren's strongest pokemon.

"Hoho! Not yet! Not yet! We still have to play," a demented kid's voice said.

A weird ghost pokemon holding a mask appeared in front of Xander and started to laugh.

"Death. Could you please leave so I can end this boy's trial," Cheren said.

"My trial... What are you talking about?" Xander didn't even notice that Lilly was fighting Cheren's Tranquill and losing.

Xander quickly recalled Lilly and brought out Zuzu who defeated the Tranquill easily.

"Cheren lie, Cheren lie. Cheren say Death get to have fun! Death want to see the tribute's journey," the weird ghost pokemon said.

"What are you talking about!" Xander screamed. The boy's screaming awakened N from his sleep. He quickly ran to Xander's aid to help him.

"Xander, are you okay?" N asked. Xander replied yes, but he was losing a lot of blood and his face was getting paler.

"Please Yamask! Help us! Xander never meant any harm. He's dying here," N told Death.

"Exactly, the boy with the perfect sol must perish!" Cheren said as his body started break apart in squares. His voice started to change and became more high pitched.

"Not good. Not good at all. Cheren break deal. Cheren no good." Death giggled and touched Zuzu on the forehead. Zuzu started to evolve thanks to Death's touch.

Zuzu looked at Cheren and threw rocks at him, keeping Cheren at bay. Cheren screached with pain and shriveled into dust. The battle was over.

"Xander, it's okay, he's gone now..." N said.

But Xander's eyes were closed and and it was hard to hear his breath.

"No!" N said. He pulled out Zuzu's pokeball and returned the newly evolved Boldore.

Death the Yamask looked at Xander and started to giggle. He snapped his fingers and the three were in Nimbasa City.

"Amazing..." N said he turned to thank Death, but Death was gone. N looked at Xander and saw that an empty pokeball was now filled.

N picked up Xander and rushed him to the pokemon center.

"N... what's...wrong with me?" Xander asked before his world went dark
