Prompt: Spring Sparring
The first tournament for the more fighter classes in the pack is just around the corner and since the ice and snow is gone, now is the time to start preparing!
Results: Calypso Victorious
Number of Vitality Left (start with 3)

Garen couldn't believe it. He lost! Not only did he lose, but he was also so easily defeated by a wolf half his size. He flashed his teeth and swore: "Ah, bêdun!" Pure hate for himself filled his chest. He was such a waste. How could he be this easily defeated by... He lifted his head up and looked at the enthusiastic, proud female... By... Damn it, what was her name? He knew she wasn't a Voliel and that she had introduced herself to him, but he couldn't remember. He was such an illbast! He got an idea after one glance at her bright shining orange fur.

Calypso couldn't believe it! Victory! As the results were announced of their little sparring match, Calypso could hardly suppress her excitement. She jumped around in a small circle, exclamations of pride and delight echoing in the small area of the Arena. All her training had paid off after all. Finally, some fruits of her labor.

Oh! She paused, realizing how rude she was appearing. Looking to Garen as he collected himself, she leaned forward timidly, calming her feelings of ecstasy to offer her congrats on the match. "Hey, Garen -" Her voice was soft, as she struggled to keep some of her confidence as she spoke. "Great match, thank-" She paused as she noticed the tense aura around him. Uhhh, he didn't seem to be taking it well.

He scraped his shattered pride from the ground and growled: "You got lucky this time, Pumpkin, but next, I will defeat you!" The words left a bitter taste on Garen's tongue, and he knew he wasn't fair to this competent female. He hit the ground hard because of his own incompetence, and now he was being unfair to the much smaller winner.

Calypso flinched at the words but did not absorb any malice. He was simply frustrated with the results, and a part of her understood it was not entirely with her. However, she still shrunk in his shadow. "Of course." She offered him a small smile, trying to hear the determination in his tone rather than the hurt.

A moment of silence hung between the two; Calypso was unsure if she should say more.

He was really an illbast. He swallowed his pride and added: "You've done really well, Pumpkin."

His tone changed slightly, she could still sense his frustration, but there was a feeling of sincerity now. "Thank you, Garen." Calypso shifted, bashful, not used to the nickname and congratulations. "You did well too!" She pressed - newfound confidence behind her gaze. She knew what it felt like to wallow in the feeling of self-doubt. "Let's try to help each other - get stronger, I mean." She offered a final smile before they were escorted from the Arena.

The next sparring pair was then brought in to train.

Another wonderful collab with Moonfin! Garen and Calypso spar for the upcoming tournament and to a lot of people's surprise (my own included) Calypso wins! Garen doesn't take it well at first but the two come to neutral terms before leaving the Arena. While Calypso is still wary of Garen she sees a little of herself in him - and Garen just needs to blow off some steam about the loss. ;;
I did the sketch, lines, coloring and blur effects.
Moonfin did the shading, background and lovely lighting. <3
Moonfin wrote the parts for Garen above while I wrote for Calypso and formatted the text.
Thank you Moonfin for doing this prompt with me! Calypso would hug Garen but he's a little scary <3 I hope we do more interactions in the future! In the meanwhile I'm rooting for Garen's success/development.
