Description
So, I very recently went to see the new Godzilla movie, and wow...I was kinda blown away.I went in with mixed expectations, and came out very, very happy, but ever since then, I have really fallen for what I believe now is my favorite movie monster ever. And so, after a few days of on and off work, I present to you... King Ghidorah. He's basically everything I like in a creature, wrapped into one, angry package: we've got an electric, hydra space god, what more is there to want?
In terms of the art, this is really the first piece I feel showcases the things I've been working on for my private projects, and I was super happy with how this came out (hopefully I don't find something iffy with the pic that I want to change later, but right now I feel okay about it). Also, line-less art is...what one might call a time, but for the dramatic lighting and detail I wanted to use, I felt it fitting to ditch the lines and go for a complete painting feel, alongside some effects I threw in after the fact.
It is worth mentioning, I know that this is not 100% to Ghidorah's design in the film, nor is the color scheme, I was just playing around with concepts and really liked the more golden, orangey palette, especially with the storm in the background and the glowing eyes. Really I just went to town with this, and tried my darnedest to expand what little I know about art to make the best tribute art I could possible muster.
Of course, it is important to mention that this character is not my own, and all rights go to the proper owners of Ghidorah (which I believe to be Toho Company Ltd., but apologies if I am wrong about this), while the art itself is all my own work, except for the rain overlay, which I grabbed from this page: pngimg.com/uploads/rain/rain_P….
Alrighty, I think that's enough rambling from me, and if I don't stop myself now, I'm just going to wimp out and not post this tonight XD
I hope you have a wonderful day/night, and keep it crazy peeps ^^

I greatly appreciate the support and the kind words(although I don't know if I'd call myself great, as I still have a lot to learn). It has meant a lot to me to make new connections with other artists who love the craft, and share the things that I really enjoy with others of the same interest.
And, I see a lot of great things in your work; your sketches are very solid with a nice grasp of anatomy and I can see you starting to work with various textures in some of your newer pieces. I look forward to seeing what you create in the future

That's a great place to start, though, and being self-taught really allows you to create your own style of character design (not saying classes and such do not allow that, as they are still a very nice place to begin or continue studies as well). Still, there's nothing wrong with experimentation, and you never know what you might create one day just out a few abstract ideas.
Geez, I really do like my run-on sentences

Looks awesome! While it is not 100 percent accurate to the film...I could care less to be honest. The details in the face and scales is great and I think you did a wonderful job at the warm colors on his flesh
Great work!

Thank you very much! I was kinda worried what people would think, given that it is deviating from the film quite a bit, which is probably why I was very nervous to post this piece, since he's a very popular character (and rightfully so!), but I really do appreciate the positive feedback!

Shouldn't be nervous. You kept with the spirit of the character. Which translates in your art and makes it attractive to other viewers. It's not like some fans whom really change almost everything that is fundamental to the character. I think there was a term a while back called "raptor-ization" that was happening to a lot of Godzilla based kaijus. This was basically taking a Godzilla monster and giving them the body of a Trex or Raptor from Jurassic Park and calling it a "redesign".
It didn't work cause it essentially defeated the idea of what a "kaiju" is meant to be. It never was meant to look like an anatomically correct animal. It wasn't meant to be a dinosaur. It is from a live action form of media where it is men in rubber suits.
Anyway....that was my little rant of a history lesson from the kaiju fandom lol! So I guess what I am saying is, in short...don't ever be nervous about your art ever. As long as you stay in the spirit of the medium you are using or the essence of the character...you will be fine. And I mean hey....almost a 100 favorites on this thing; so it's not like I am the only one that thinks that

As someone who isn't really confident in my works (if I ever will be, but I can hope), I gotta say I'm always a little on edge when I posting up new stuff, but this one really did freak me out as it's branching into a really big fandom that I myself am a newcomer to. However, I have been absolutely amazed at the overwhelming response and am glad that I could keep the essence of the character in the piece.
And, I believe I may have caught wind of something like that, where people made the kaiju into a more dino-like form, which I can see why it wouldn't really work. As much as I like dinosaurs, the two are very different things, and to meld them kinda would defeat the purpose. Still, it's always cool to learn new things about different fandoms
Thank you again for the kind words, and hopefully, as time goes on, I will be able to gain a little more confidence in the work that I produce.
