You know, this image seems really weird, that this garden is in the United States. It actually strongly reminds me of images I've seen of parks in Rome. Those foreground trees have a highly exotic quality to them

How do you call this kind of trees ? here when they are cut like that, we call them "pollard" (tadpole) most of the time it's willow trees

Oh ! they are in farms here too, they were cutted like that to produce wood for fire in winter, every 2-3 years, all the branches were cutted living only the trunk, year after year, the trunks become huge with a strange silhouette for the tree

I wish I knew what kind of trees they are...in this area we have maple trees...live oak trees and black cottonwood trees...
