Description
   Nick was beyond surprised at their little companion's skill with firearms. The young boy was terrified just as much as them, if not more so, but his quick and small body allowed him to dodge the stumbling undead's attacks. His aim was amazing, 'must have 20/20 vision' Nick thought. He actually wouldn't be to bad on the team...if he'd shut up. If the boy wasn't screaming or yelling from fear he would just talk....and talk...and talk. Now Nick knew completely why he never wanted kids. They were fucking annoying. And of course his teammates were too busy saving the brat's ass to watch his back.

  Finally, the elevator. To be honest, Nick wanted to just break down and throw a temper tantrum. It just wasn't fair...why'd this have to happen? And just before he could scream he heard sobbing. The punk had started crying.

  "Oh...sweetie...don't worry, it'll be fine...we'll take care of you." Rochelle said lightly as she hugged the youngest of the group.

  "GODDAMMIT. You have GOT to be fucking kidding me!" Nick screamed, causing both the young boy and woman to jump. Ellis instantly stop crying and coughed back any tears. "Just how old ARE you? You're too old to blubbering like a baby. Get OVER it you little punk. If you want to live you better shut up and grow up." Nick grabbed him by his left wrist, readying his hand to slap the boy across the face, but stopped dead in his tracks. The way Ellis looked at him...the fear in his eyes...and yet...the familiarity...the child seemed to be used to this kind of treatment. Nick let him go...and the rest of the ride down the elevator was silent.

  The smoke just got thicker and thicker. And the boy's coughing got louder and louder. "Jesus Christ, kid." Nick took his jacket off and wrapped it around the boy's face. It smelled like strong, expensive cologne and a tinge of sweat. He picked up the small body and motioned for the others to go on ahead. "You guys clear the area. I'll bring the brat after. His lungs can't take this kind of smoke unprotected."

  Coach and Rochelle shared the same skeptical look, and finally Coach uttered what they both were thinking. "Why the sudden change a heart, Nick? You was five minutes away from shooting the boy a second ago."

  "No reason...he just might be useful...now GO."

  And so they did, following through with Nick's plan. And Nick followed through with his end of the plan, bringing the kid with him. He could hear the coughing through the white fabric.

  "Don't worry...we're almost out." Nick assured the child as he saw the outside patio was just in sight.

   "Thank ya..." Ellis mumbled through the man's suit jacket. The safe room was just in sight. Nick let the boy down and put his coat back on. Ellis ran towards the other two companions in the safe room. Finally...until Nick was attacked up some hooded freak. Before the long claws could make contact with Nick's chest, a bullet made contact with its head. Ellis had shot him. The undead dead body fell on Nick, who quickly pushed it off.

   "I guess we'll call it even, huh?"

   "Guess so..." Ellis chuckled. He seemed to be opening up more to the older man...maybe he just might change that cold attitude of his.

   And so they ran into the safe room, quickly slamming the metal door behind them, locking it tight, and blocking it off with various objects within the room.
