Description I've decided against coloring this. But everything is done for this that I can see. I could do some minor /small tweaks. but eh. I've spent too long on this XD it's time to wrap it up and move to the next project.

Can you do animation of a character inflating their muscles?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Thiridian In reply to Kingdom550 [2015-12-18 06:21:28 +0000 UTC]

Eventually I'd like to try it, at least not in the normal muscle growth formula but in my balloon muscle mode that I like.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Thiridian In reply to Kingdom550 [2016-03-29 06:39:03 +0000 UTC]

The world and animation industry does not revolve around inflation. I'm needing to work on all angles of animation to improve myself.
I didn't get my degree to learn to inflate.

I noticed you talk about the "Principles in Animation" ... I had two professors who did; John Lassiter of Pixar fame and another professor who's name escapes me, but she was the one who taught the "Intro to Animation" class.Β  Both of these professors spoke of the principles day in and day out.Β

^_^ That's incredible that you had a class with John! I would've loved to have met him for class. Right now I'm learning from the guy who wrote the animation course at my school. He's not as well known as John but he's doing a good job.

Oh yes, I've heard of this lad ... looks like he would be good to learn under.

Nice work here. Love the smooth line work especially (something I struggle with a lot with flash animations) and the whole movement is so fluid.

Thiridian In reply to duragan [2015-01-30 22:02:31 +0000 UTC]

I used to do Flash and 3d Animation, and there's this thing they tried to show off where animating was done in "arcs" on the time line for movement. If you ever take a look at animation principles, the principle of inertia will SEVERELY change how your characters move, and it all goes along with those "arcs". It took me several classes to actually get in an animation course that had an instructor who actually worked for an animation studio to demonstrate how to create these. XD
Most of the other classes I've had to this point (this school and my other college 10 years ago) were focused on using the programs to animate and never even touched the principles.

I'll have to check out what you work on for animation later on when not at work.

I studied for three years in a course at university for Animation and Illustration, though it was really more an illustration course. We learnt a lot about the basics of animation though and we were able to enjoy playing around with a variety of methods and animation techniques including Stop Motion and Flash Tweening and some Frame-by-Frame as though.

One recent piece of work I did can be found here if you are interested in a little look; and a walk cycle;

Thiridian In reply to duragan [2015-01-31 00:42:13 +0000 UTC]

The difference between the two animations that you shown is that inertia thing There's a few tweaks I'd suggest for the walk cycle but let's focus on the inertia.
For your walk cycle, the body is staying in motion. The feet especially are constantly moving, so unless he'd be tiptoeing or starting and stopping, you wouldn't need to make adjustments for those.
The arms/hands are debatable if you want to adjust it to work with inertia. Since the character is moving his arms quickly/joyfully, I would suggest adding some.

It's one of those things that's extremely hard to explain using text alone. I'll just say it as:
For movement, not timing, the distance traveled between the first and second frame is low. And the distance increases until the midpoint of the motion. Then it decreases before it stops.
Think of it like this for distance: (Numbers are frames)
1-2---3-----4---------5
Then do the reverse to stop.
Of course there's a bit more to it, but this is the most important key to making movement look better in animation.

So Daryl would benefit from the slow start, rapid increase, and then slowed stop. Of course if you draw it out in a few breaths for the inhale you could get some more time out of it.

I love how her tail acts as an overpressure release, so her boobs don't explode her top.
I also love seeing her breasts inflate up into her face.Β  Delightful!
