Description This is the second version of my Anatomic Heart Teapot. I'll toss in a before and after shot to show you how much of an improvement it is.

The lid fused, and I'm in the process of chiseling it off (That's where the nasty chips came from on the top, this is just a WIP version, I have another detail firing coming up SOMETIME) but it is fully functional once I fix that.

Made from white stoneware clay, and coated with Scarlet Red glaze. Took about 5-6 hours to sculpt, with the initial form taking 3. It got too wet and collapsed on itself, resulting in another two-three hour drain.

It is a nice fit, about seven or eight inches long (from memory)

I would have used a glaze combination that showed more depth. The screaming red glaze takes away from the awesome three-dmensional shape. A glaze that breaks on the edges would have more readily enhanced the shape of the piece. Or naked clay with a red mason stain wash over it would have done the trick.

In any case, its an awesomely imaginative piece. well done.

I had a prototype before this with a glaze that broke much more, but a few years ago I was really into opaque things for some reason. I'd probably go for more depth now, though.

Hah, thank you!

Haaa~ Maybe in the future! I think I NEED to take a ceramics class for my major, so depending on projects/free time and materials...

Hehe
I've never sculpted anything that big, so I guess I would fail if I tried to make, say, a kidney cup..but I'd love to have something like that. Especially because I kinda collect teapots

Thank you very much! The inspiration came from La Mecanique Du Coeur (Album and book synopsis) that sparked my immense love for anatomically correct hearts.

I think you should've painted some veins and other colors into it, human heart isn't completely red
And it would've been more interesting like that I think.
But nonetheless, it's a cute idea
I'd love to have tea from that one

I did sponge some texture in before it was fired, but the darker red details ended up blending in. The whole "lid being fused" thing gave me a lot of time to think of ways to reglaze it when half of it chipped off around the lid. @ w@

Thank you!
