Description Really beautiful morning...This is about 30 minutes before sunrise. Taken on October 12, 2012 near Fort Smith, Northwest Territories.

It was about -12oC when this photo was taken. The interaction of the warmer water with the cooler air gave rise to this fog right where the rapids begin. The water is still liquid at these temperatures partly because there are still positive temperatures during October in this region and partly because the water is always moving.

This was intentionally taken at the same spot on the granite as this photo:

Both taken at a spot on the Slave River Rapids that I am as familiar with as my own room.

Thank you very much and for the visit as well. I wasn't sure about the saturation levels (considered lowering it) but people seem to think it's fine so it will stay as is!

Noo I like the saturation. I think it brings out the highlights and the differentiation between colors a lot. Especially between the sky and the water.

Thanks man. Do you think I should do a de-saturate?

As in lower the saturation or go black and white? I think the colours are fine as they are; no need to pull them back.

Seems like such a magical place! I love that the water seems so calm and soothing and as smooth as ice. Are those clouds in the background or tufts of fog? I guess clouds... but I see a line of fog too. At any rate, the colors are beautiful and I like that you kept the treeline on the right and did not crop it off because that treeline and the fog add even more to the depth and magic of this shot. Just lovely! How cold was it, btw?

That is fog rising from the water right as it starts to turn to rapids. There is no cloud in the photo (except for distant high cloud on the horizon which is partly which creates that orange glow).  I'm glad you like those trees... The temperature was about -5oC! That's why the fog was rising from the beginning of the rapids I am debating desaturating the image a bit...I prefer more natural colors but that morning was pretty close to this so I am divided.

Ah, I see, thanks for clarifying.

Well, if the colors were close and you just tweaked them a bit why worry about desaturation? In my opinion, it's a decision totally up to you but personally, I like the more striking colors better and wouldn't mind a bit of tweaking anyway. All in good measure, of course. If it worries you, then please, go ahead. But don't feel you HAVE to...we wouldn't even have known about the saturation aspect if you hadn't mentioned it in the first place. Your photos are skill- and meaninful per se, no matter how de-/saturated they are.

So...oh, I dunno. I feel like this reply doesn't have a whole lot to convey besides - do what you wanna do and we will be fine with it.

Haha. Yeah..You're smart. Thank you.

Also, an edit, it was actually around -12 that morning! I looked it up.
