Description
I don't have anything against OCs.What bothers me is when their creators get so freaking DEFENSIVE of them.
I get that you care about your characters, but when they suck, they suck.
And, actually, if you'd lighten up and poke some fun at your character, YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY END UP MAKING A BETTER CHARACTER ALTOGETHER. One that isn't IMMUNE TO RIDICULE.

I take my OCs seriosuly...in the total opposite direction.
I really really don;t want to wind up making a sue...
And learning about the Hero's Journey really helped me too.

Overpowered, god like characters or whatever they're mega invincible at are the most boring ones, to me anyways.
At least I try to make my characters as good as they can be and when sharing them with my friends to see what they think, I'll happily fixs things up if I have to.

That's really good advice. Many people (including myself) get so caught up in defending their characters that they don't listen to other people's points.

I have so many split personalities characters that if I don't like one, I can kill it off and make a new one. Too bad a lot of noob RPers can't or won't do it. I've had a couple of guys leave because I started telling them they need to memorize the rules or get their butts out. So they got their butts out. :I

Agreed. I would've cut half the crappiness from my characters a lot sooner if someone had given me some proper criticism. Finally I realised the hard way (discovering what's right and what's wrong alone) that they needed tweaking. I used to get defensive, then I realised the point of characters isn't to be liked, but to become something.

You may need to re-word this stamp. It means one thing, but your description says another. (It's kinda vague too.)
When I read your stamp, I thought it meant users being totally obsessive over their OC. The words "Stop taking it so seriously" reminds me of users who think their OC is the best and would say something along the lines of:
"HEY GAIZ!! LOOK A MY OC!! IT'S THE BEST AND I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY!!!"
You know, like 'OC; shove it in everyones face' seriousness.
=========================
But when I read your description, it says that users should not be overly defensive about 'em. You should explain a bit more on that 'cause it seems like I'm not the only one not understanding what you're saying here.
Defensive as in when others are bashing it? Or in not letting another OC have the same Cannon character? Or not excepting a critic? Or denying the fact it's a sue and needs work?
You have to put a bit more information in this so people won't be misguided when they read it.

It depends on what people say for me. If people are like "WATTHEFACK THEYRE ALL CATS", I get annoyed. Becayuse they're MORE than that to me. I spent time developing and creating them...
Maybe I take things too seriously anyway. XD

I get defensive sometimes, but it depends on what the other person said. It's not really that it's my character getting "insulted", it's more that I feel like my creativity and hard work is getting insulted. Most of the characters I have I created years ago and have been developing ever since. So I dunno, I just get a little mad if people say bad things about something I've worked so hard to create.
But I can see where you're coming from, when people get catty and mean and whatnot.

I think, it's kind of a child to them, no wonder why they are so protective. (I would be, too)

De Gustibus non disputandum est. Or as my teacher used to say: 'My cat eats mice, I don't really like them though.'
Everyone has different intentions when writing, some want the drama, some want a believable character development, some poeple just have a nice idea of a character to write a story with.

As an avid writer, I agree 100% that this is what they are. But if you expect to grow as a writer, and to fully accept that analogy, you must let them grow up. As the writer "parent", your character "child" will only turn into something that you're caring for and making excuses for if you don't properly let it thrive. Let it rebel. Let it grow. Let it be independent. It's surprisingly hard, but it's what you have to do.

Not at all. Most people who make OC's tend to prefer to throw them into the worst type of situations just for the drama. That's what I do, lol.
Granted, if there's supposed to be a parent-child like relationship between creator and character, child services would have come for me a long time ago.

Yes, I understand why people feel protective of them, but an OC isn't REALLY like a child. It's a fictional character, and people become very, VERY defensive of them.
Thanks for the comment!
