The original "real" Bugbear of British mythology says they are goblins or faeries who are part bear and part brownie or boggart. Bugbears are said to be bigger than most faeries, but have the same love and passion for farming and domestic chores as their fathers: who are almost always brownies or homeless hobgoblins.
