Desirae turned and looked at the letter in Ares' claws, tilting her head curiously before releasing the kids from her hug and taking it from him, opening the envelope carefully.

Dear Desirae

I know we didn't leave off on the best of terms but.... Alma told me where you lived and I wasn't sure if I would be able to bring myself to talk to you face to face. So if you're reading this, it means I couldn't. I know you were mad at me when we were kids for ignoring you, but I was working on a surprise for you. I'm sorry again.

I bet you have a really nice family by now. Alma mentioned something about some kids. Ave and I have one of our own, she's a bit of a troublemaker. I won't bother you with too much more though, you're probably busy and the last thing you want to do is talk to me. Ave and I are moving away from Wynsiph. By the time you're reading this, we'll probably be at the docks. I hope you found happiness.

Desirae's jaw dropped open as she read, a couple tears welling up in her eyes when she read the name. "Hadyn, I need to go to the lake before it's too late." She urged, looking towards him. Tilting his head, Ares went over to her and put a wing across her shoulders. "I'll come with you." He offered. "Oh! Me too me too!" Adina piped up, running over to them with a curious, excited grin. Desirae smiled at them, patting Adina's head. "If we're not too late, I would love this old friend of mine to meet you guys." She said, looking up to Hadyn. "Do you want to-"

"No thanks, I'm gonna go out to train. Addie you coming?" Hadyn replied, abruptly turning towards the door and looking to Addie. She glanced from her parents to Hadyn, then back. "I'll go with him, just in case." She said, stepping over to him before the two of them headed out. "Well looks like it's just the three of us then, come on."

It was just barely nightfall when they began heading back to town, Nari looking down a bit. "Des? Hey... They might not have gone yet. We can go back tomorrow if you want?" Ares gave her a faint smile. She perked up a bit, looking back at him. "I.... I would like that." She replied, her hope returning. "Come oooon I'm tired let's goooo." Adina protested, scampering up ahead and turning the corner to head towards their house. "Adina! Oh that child..." Desirae shook her head, chuckling and continuing to walk.

Suddenly, a piercing scream split through the night and Desirae's ears pinned back. "ADINA?!!" She called out, running in the direction the little one had gone with Ares not too far behind. They grew closer to the center of town, sounds of fighting and struggle becoming more apparent as they grew closer. Another scream pierced out and Desirae bolted faster, turning one last corner and seeing Adina huddled up in terror. "Adina?! What's wro-" Before the words could even leave her mouth, her eyes turned upwards, heart skipping a beat, a shiver crawling down her spine. The scar on her face felt like it was burning, as she saw where the fighting was coming from.

For one split second, Desirae was back in the forest, a shadowed monster, snarling and hungry bearing down on her. She had been lucky to escape with Adina safe and her own life.

But the beast was here now.... Everyone was fighting it....

"Adina.... Run."

SO! If you're not sure what I'm referencing, I am talking about this old picture/story here .
Basically, since there wasn't any creature that fit at the time, I had just done a shadowy thing for it. But then wyngro made the deelagun, which fit so perfectly into the plot that Allie and I honestly joked that it had been made for us. (That isn't the case of course heh.)

So, the thing that Desirae tried to fight and was almost killed by last year? I'm gonna say it was a deelagun now. Probably the same one in town since I HIGHLY doubt there would be too many hanging around in one place.

This also means that the rest of the plot I had for this family just fell perfectly into place because of this event-
