Description a bracelet i still managed to finish before i went off from finland into exchange. the surface still needs to be cleaned off abit more, but it looks alright enough in the photos now... i'm realy happy with this. even though it's much used and really nothing new and probably really boring i always wanted to employ the cherry blossom theme. i like it a lot and know i will actually really be wearing this. on the other hand i'm simply happy with how the hinge and catch came out. there's a slight gap at some part in the hinge i'm not very happy about, but it's not all too bad. after all this was my first hinge so i guess it'll be alright ^^

edit: i added the third picture so the bracelet is not mistaken for a ring anymore. thanks to everybody who told me 'bout that ^^

from hinge to catch completely crafted from sterling silver (925) sheet

It's a little too thick for my personal taste, but the way it's designed is really great and the cherry blossom texture makes it look special.

yeah, it's quite sturdy. i agree that it might look nicer in a thinner version, but we had to do this after a certain model so the "thickness" was kinda compulsory.
thank you! ^^

I see, well in this case you made a even better work cause you managed to make it look great even if you had to make it that thick!

You're welcome.

Looks great. A clatch is always a piece of art to make.. same thing for the hinge. The pattern of the cherry blossom makes it a unique piece i think.

Very nicely crafted! I love the design on it, was it engraved or cast?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThundersSilence In reply to beelzebubby [2007-09-13 17:58:19 +0000 UTC]

in a way engraved.. i used a micro drill to "draw" it thank you!!

Twitching [2007-09-13 03:14:44 +0000 UTC]

Very nice! I like the simplicity of the design. Plus, lots of respect for your hinge and catch- they're never all that easy.

thank you! the hinge is still a bit faulty.. but next will be better

enricap [2007-09-12 08:18:37 +0000 UTC]

the cherry branch theme may be overused, but this bracelet is beautiful and for sure it does not give that "already seen" feeling.

great job!

ThundersSilence In reply to enricap [2007-09-12 19:24:23 +0000 UTC]

thank you! it's very nice to hear this still works even though the theme is such an ordinary one ^^

Osa-Art-Farm [2007-09-12 07:30:58 +0000 UTC]

Very nice job. I am assuming it is etched?
The cherry blossom sprigs are a classic and beautiful design. I like them too.

ThundersSilence In reply to Osa-Art-Farm [2007-09-12 19:20:42 +0000 UTC]

thank you!! and no... though actually photo etching would have been the fastest way, but since i'm in love with those "micro drills" (however they are really called in english) i just "milled" the picture out with that drill and then colored it with liver of sulfur

Osa-Art-Farm In reply to ThundersSilence [2007-09-12 21:48:40 +0000 UTC]

eeeep! Well, a drill is 'sort of' like drawing, but harder. Great job on that.

thank you so much ^^ it was a challenge and i feel good about it. thought i strive to make another, to get the hinge and catch better, but otherwise this time i also really like it

You can tell you are a true artist. You are making such huge steps with your work, it's fantastic! Enjoy this first one 'cause it's all yours, the next one you can work out the kinks.

Gufihtar [2007-09-05 15:59:23 +0000 UTC]

Damn that's lovely. I thought it was a ring too until I looked really close at it. I think I would have added some stones but it really is best as it is.. So pretty.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThundersSilence In reply to Gufihtar [2007-09-05 16:21:55 +0000 UTC]

ahhh thank you so much! ^^ yes, i know i really should add a picture of it on my arm, so it's easier to be seen it's actually a bracelet... mhh... in my opinion stones would not suit so well here, i think the picture of the cherry branch would stop being the main focus, if i added stones.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gufihtar In reply to ThundersSilence [2007-09-05 16:31:56 +0000 UTC]

I know. I just have the bad habit of adding bling bling to everything. (ooh I made a rhyme)
But seriously it's very lovely the way it is. And I want one too. But maybe with some vanamo-flowers.. Do you think you could make me one when you come back to finland?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThundersSilence In reply to Gufihtar [2007-09-05 18:00:35 +0000 UTC]

mhh.. it would be basically possible. the problem is just that it's quite much work and i'm not sure how much i could take for it... otherwise of course i would need the training

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gufihtar In reply to ThundersSilence [2007-09-06 03:41:56 +0000 UTC]

well.. do you know (roughly) how many hours it would take to make one? I'm not sure how much i would be ready to pay but maybe we could work something out..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThundersSilence In reply to Gufihtar [2007-09-06 05:38:21 +0000 UTC]

mhhh i made the first on about 5 days, some of them only having working hours in the morning... so i think about 30 hours. i do think i should get the second done faster though, since i have some practice now, and you will need it a bit bigger quite probably, so the clasp is not as hard to do as it was now... so, 10 hours less for yours... it's hard to say...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gufihtar In reply to ThundersSilence [2007-09-08 20:57:19 +0000 UTC]

Humm. Pricing is always a bitch. 20 hours would be two and a half work days.. Darn. I'm beginning to feel that what ever it will be, it'll be way over my budget I'm not sure, there are so many ways of pricing it, it could be anything from sixty to two hundred euroes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThundersSilence In reply to Gufihtar [2007-09-09 09:19:06 +0000 UTC]

now, let's see when the time is around... i anyway feel i should make a second one stat of next year, simply because in this one are a few things i know i should do differently when making another. i would probably have wanted about 120 for it, but as i said. let's see next year how much time i really need for it, and then we can talk again (because i know budget is a bitch...)

Gufihtar In reply to ThundersSilence [2007-09-10 18:38:37 +0000 UTC]

aglaranna [2007-09-05 00:16:14 +0000 UTC]

nice! I haven't attempted that kind of clasp yet! looks daunting

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThundersSilence In reply to aglaranna [2007-09-05 05:17:14 +0000 UTC]

^^ it's the usual clasp we use here for this kind of stuff. it was a challenge because it was really small (the whole thing is only 16cm circumference since i made it for myself and i have terribly small wrists)
thank you!!
