Digital Art entry for the Elementals Contest . Disappointed: Did not place or receive mention.I've been thinking about the Elementals contest since I first saw the journal. I wanted to do something with fire from the first. This is the third or fourth model that I've cut out with the intention of entering the contest. I finally received my inspiration two days ago. I had an idea for her hair and when I saw this model I knew exactly where I wanted to go with the image. Some of the inspiration may have come from that I've just finished Gena Showalter's novel: Burning Dawn in which the female character was half-phoenix. In the book, they are called fire-breathers and the 'grave-challenged' because they continuously rise from their own ashes after death, thus the title "What is Risen."
Over all, I am extremely pleased with how the image turned out and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.

I love this. The overall impact of the picture is impressive. I particularly like your use of light and shadow and the glow you have added to the model's body. The texture of the wings and the composition are absolutely stunning. Overall, I'm a little bit in love with this picture.
Now for some constructive criticism - which is just my opinion, so you can choose to ignore it, since overall I think you did and awesome job with this.
The scales on her left, my right, could perhaps do with a little more definition, perhaps with use of light reflection along the tips of the scales? I'm also a little distracted by her hair - specifically, the strands around her face look a but unnatural.. which is fine since this is a fantasy picture and she's clearly not human, but... I wonder whether you could concentrate on the finer detail in this area? There are some great brushes available for PS and GIMP that give you more natural looking hair than just a cut out - as a base, I think the image you used is good. Also the foreground, right in front of her feet where it is particularly dark, doesn't seem to match the crispness of the rest of the picture.. that was more of an after thought though, so take it as you will.
Overall, I think it's fantastic.

now im not anywhere near as good as you are, but looking for something wrong, i found that the fire coming from her feet dosn't really match the rest of the groud, so it looks, kind of odd. also her hair looks like it was just stuck onto her head, it could be blended better like, stringing out of the top of her forehead. but other then that, i love the detail and the wings are beautiful!! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="
