Description Got out my ancient all mechanical switch keyboard to use for a while. This awesome piece of computer history still works perfectly even after about a quarter century. Created and built by those that cared far more about quality than most companies of today, and built to last. Sometimes older is far superior. Plus, it's a pure pleasure to touch-type on these at any speed.

Back in the old days many keyboards had options like these. You used the dip switch to program in other key layouts (you swapped keys and made proper dip setting based on what config the keys are in) and interface port type could also be changed using a dip setting depending on what hardware you connected the keyboard to. The big red button was used mostly to make additional setting changes like repeat speed and hardware polling, if I recall correctly. (all those settings are now done in the operating system / software) I just use the default hardware modes obviously as this is connected using an adapter to a newer PC system. In other words all the dip switches are set to OFF, or 100% compatibility mode.
