Description Wooooo it took so long to figure these guys out you have /no/ idea.
So this is a sheet (For myself and anyone insterested xP ) for the three sea-based races of the Unityverse.
I'll be making these for all the major species, which should be interesting considering the amount of hybrids we have noted down/designed already..
erg.
Anywho, onward!

-- Went with basic, un-fancy linearts with flat coloring --

-----------------------------
1. Merponies

Pretty much your classic merpony,

Merponies are herbivores, feasting souly on kelp.

They are slightly smaller than the dwellers, but have less bulk and tend to be much more frail.

Merponies live in large colonies usually near coral reefs and kelp forests, rarely ever branching off into solitary life.

They are a polyamorous species, unlike the Dwellers they prefer multiple mates, though this does vary.

Merpony scales are shed consistently throughout their life, and typically discarded, though many land-based hybrids consider them little treasures.

Female merponies tend to have soft and vulnerable fins, unable to withstand much damage, while males typically have some type of dorsal or pectoral fins with their soft fins. Due to this, males are employed as guards/anything defence.
((More on these guys soon))
-----------------------------
2. Ambhibious Dwellers

Featuring Tide's (updated) parents, Ripcurrent and Siren Song
"Dwellers" - A name granted to them by the Merponies, since they dwell on both land and in sea.

Dwellers do not have gills. They can hold their breath for extremely long periods of time.

The larger of the sea and land creatures.
Dwellers are primarily omnivores, preferring to feast on fish, kelp, and occasionally corals.

They inhabit any coastal land they deem appropriate, and while some prefer to live on entire islands of other Dwellers, there are smaller groups/family packs that prefer to live alone together among the main coastline of Omnivaria.

Dwellers have a "life mate" so when the choose their mate, they will only love them and them alone, and have been known to go into great sorrow and seemingly unending mourning when they pass. They do not take another mate after this, though there have been extremely rare cases otherwise, it is very taboo in their species.

They have sharp, re-growable canines used for catching prey and defence, their teeth gradualy get duller towards the back as they have molars used for grinding up corals and kelp as well.

They lack fluff, and are generally weak to frigid air temperatures. Rather than fluff, they have a velvet-like layer of fur that covers them head to tail witht he exception of their fins, if any.

Only found on Females, the Dweller's fins are considerably more resistant than those of the Merponies. While they are still the weakest point on a Dweller, they are moderately tear resistant, though when torn they do not regrow.

Due to their natural bulk and size, most Dwellers find themselves as guards, though there have been plenty that have discovered talents far out of their expected skill set.

-------------------------------
3. Sea Sprites

Sea Sprites are a rarely seen species, being extremely small compared to the other races of sea-based ponies at about a third the size of an average Dweller.

They are a primitive, cannibalistic race that tend to live in small groups or "tribes" ruled by a singular Sprite and passed down to that sprites offspring.

The leader of this tribe is usually observed to be assumingly female. Females tend to appear slightly larger than the males.

There is not much known about this species but after some examination by very enthusiatic and some very dead researchers, it's discovered that dispite looking mostly harmless at first glance,
these small inhabitants are quite vicious, attacking on command of the tribe's leader. Their mouths are filled with needle-like teeth, seemingly made for tearing off bits of flesh.

Communication attempts reveal they they don't speak, but instead communicate through a series of chirps and clicks they produce naturally.

Merponies refer to them as "savages" while Dwellers call them "Nuisances"

-----------------

I would like to state just to be safe, these are my plans for these species only in unityverse.
I am in no means attempting to take anyone elses design for a species. These are created for the Unityverse storyline and aren't based off of anything outside of my own imagination.
The art, and OC's featured belong to me.

I would also like to say, in light of Sea Sprites, Unity's story isn't gorey.
We're not too into that, and try to avoid sensitive material ^^' I just want to give each species a very thought-out place in Unity.
