Override, of "Transformers: Cybertron"
You were male in Japan, and female in the US. Whatever your sex may be, your speed is inspiring and you've got one of the best toys in the toy line.

Birdo, of "Super Mario Bros. 2"
To quote the instruction booklet, "He thinks he is a girl and he spits eggs from his mouth." But it wasn't just a thought at all, it was the truth. And now finally, the rest of us know it, too. You're female.

Ridley, of the "Metroid" games
You've always been female in my mind, just as the other bosses are female. But I know that as recently as "Smash Brothers Melee" you were identified as male, and I know there have been internet debates about your sex. But please know that no matter what we call you, you'll always be the bad-ass dragon we love. No matter how many times we kill you, keep coming back for the next game.

Silphymon, of "Digimon Adventure 02"
You're a perfect blend of the female Gatomon and the male Aquilamon. I have never known what pronoun to use for you, but I do know that it doesn't matter to your coolness or the power of your Static Force attack. You're easily one of my favorite Digimon.

Renamon, of "Digimon Tamers"
I'll admit that when I met you I wasn't 100% sure. But I knew right away that you were my favorite. Your poise and grace and your strength in the battlefield--even against champions--are what won me over, not your sex. Eventually she asked the embarrassing question "you're a girl, right?" I wanted you here mostly for your answer: while you could be considered female, Digimon don't really have sexes like that.
P.S. I apologize for the internet.

Goldeen and Seaking, of the "Pokemon" games
It's a small detail that got lost when Gold and Silver added sexes to Pokemon. Goldeen, queen of the sea, you're female; and Seaking, you're male. Because like so many of the fish in my world, your sex can change during the course of your life. It's a part of nature. Sex is irresolute.

Mewtwo, of the "Pokemon" games
You've got quite a reputation as one of the toughest and coolest of the pokemon. You're legendary. And like most of the other legendary pokemon as well as some of the common ones, you're gender neutral.

You, of the internet
I can't tell what your gender is, and that has no impact on the quality of your work, or the content of your character. You might be male, you might be female. You might be thirdsex like Silphymon, neutrois like Mewtwo, intersex, or go back and forth fluidly like Override. You may find that the sex you're born with isn't who you are, like Birdo, and that changing it will be a part of your life like Goldeen evolving into Seaking. You know that gender takes on many more forms than just male and female; you are part of a beautifully diverse spectrum of possibilities. You should be able to take pride in that.

-characters belong to the listed sources and their respective creators. Ridley and Birdo are based on the character art from "Super Metroid" and "Super Mario Bros. 2" respectively, instead of recent designs.-

It's pretty clear that Mewtwo was a guy from the movie.

It seems like you're missing a few: Tails, Poison, Deidara, etc.

And I'm sure there are many more characters who could fit in well here. It's amazing how often it occurs once you start looking for it.

All of these characters are awesome for what they do, not what gender they are. :3 That's what a truly great character can be.

This is also the first I've ever heard of Ridley being a possible female. Neat. I never knew the gender of this beastly dragon was on debate. I could have sworn Nintendo confirmed Ridley was male. None-the-less, Ridley is still freaking badass.

Well Ridley's probably confirmed by now, but definitely in the early NES days of the series there wasn't much to go on one way or the other. Even Samus would have been a good candidate for this because of that.

Technically, Digimon don't have sexes due to the fact that they don't reproduce, but if they have gender expressions, hers would definitely be feminine.

Yea I get cha there. I think its safe to assume that they have gender based traits and using those traits helps us decide what gender the digimon is it's like when you see a female character on League of Legends, You have no Idea whether its a boy or a girl playing them so you just refer to the character as "Her" or "She" Until you are corrected.

<3 Silphymon is still love... XD Even if he is a transvestite...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TigerHawkmon In reply to 0verdell [2010-06-21 07:39:18 +0000 UTC]

Well, it wouldn't really be transvestism if Silphymon is both male and female; features of either would be equally normal. But yes, Silphymon is love.

0verdell In reply to TigerHawkmon [2010-06-21 07:54:52 +0000 UTC]

I guess... ^^' Though, by all matters of technicality, he is male. Since his top half is masculine and what he got from Aquilamon, whom was male at least in the English dub, is his erm bottom half. XD So yeah... He's a dude, or at least that's what I keep telling myself. -ish a horrible fangirl-
=3 Any who, it's good to see that some one else on DA appreciates Silphymon, and all of his awesomness. ^^ He needs more art on here.

TigerHawkmon In reply to 0verdell [2010-06-21 10:44:01 +0000 UTC]

Super-technically, his sex would be male, but his gender could still be both. But the point is, as long as you love him, it doesn't matter.

-face palms at my idiocy- >w< Oh yeah, I always forget that gender and sex are different things, since it's more politically nice to refer to sex as gender.

TigerHawkmon In reply to 0verdell [2010-06-23 08:42:50 +0000 UTC]

I totally understand ; it's so confusing since people are so afraid of the word 'sex' even though its the proper and correct term. I've had to write myself a list of definitions just to make sure I've got the right word.

The-First-Ace [2010-06-19 17:21:32 +0000 UTC]

Interesting. Never saw it that way.

And what gender are you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TigerHawkmon In reply to The-First-Ace [2010-06-21 10:01:38 +0000 UTC]

Even I didn't realize how deep an idea it could be until I started really thinking about it.

Well, I'd really prefer to be unspecified, mostly just because I find the words to be highly undescriptive of who people are, and I hope a little bit of uncertainty would make people think think about me more as a person than a term. Otherwise, I'm just male.

Interesting. Wonder why this was labeled as mature though. I guess for ideologically sensitive material.

Deep, man. Deep.

TigerHawkmon In reply to ZarelTheWindDragon [2010-06-21 07:49:40 +0000 UTC]

I'm sometimes arbitrarily strict with my censorship. I do 'warning' (still unclear on how its different than mature) for stuff that might be "awkward to explain to a five-year-old." But of course I wonder if they might be the people who need to hear it most.

Still, nice collection of "femmes" you got there.
