I was lucky to be in Tokyo to see it. Are there any giant robots near you Tomo?

whoah, that thing is complete?! Last I heard, I think only part of the legs were done, if that.

Awesome looking pic. Just a few technical things - on the left edge, I think there's a spot where the masks don't line up, or something was moved.

Also, there's a bit of a halo effect around the statue. Did you use a large soft edged brush there? If you want precision, I'd recommend using the pen tool, then converting to a selection, add a very slight blur to the mask, then applying it. Should get rid of the halo effect and give a more natural look.

It's just a personal gripe really. I don't like the halo look on HDR or edited photos as I think it makes it pretty obvious where retouching was. I'm just a detail freak when it comes to editing

Cool shot though - another thing added to my list of things to check out next time I'm over there!

Tried out the pen tool, it's a little better now. Thanks for the tip!

No worries
Have you used the pen tool much before? It's a bit to get your head around if you haven't. The trick to getting natural paths is using as few points as possible and to curve in greater arcs, rather than lots of smaller arcs. It takes a bit of getting used to, but for dead accuracy, nothing beats it. You can even then convert to a selection, and convert to quickmask (hit q) to manually blur edges if you need to.

I think I made an old tut for masking. Never uploaded it here though. Thinking maybe I should...

I've never used it in Photoshop, but luckily I've used it in Illustrator quite a bit.

Upload, upload!

Ah yeah, I'd actually noticed that left edge thing but forgot to crop it, oops!

Yeah, it was a really quick edit with a soft edged brush, I'll try with the pen tool when I have time.
Cheers for the comment

You might miss it though, it's only a temporary thing I think.

Haha, I'm not sure why everyone is building giant robots all of a sudden, but I like it!

They are building another one near my house in Kobe now
