Description Unified Submissions Visual Suggestion from =TimberClipse and `PurpelBlur

Following today's release of the Unified Journal and News Submissions with Faving myself and `PurpelBlur came up with a number of suggestions we felt were important to add to this release.

We truly hope others will see these and support the idea as well as we hope that our suggestions will be taken into consideration!

We believe the ideas will be a great way to address many problems, without having to upset anyone.

Notes

- Deviation Numbers: *sigh* . I do in fact look at most of those messages, it just often takes some time... Sometimes I even save them (That explains about 40 of those messages, which are links to deviations I want to find later)! Plus... that will collect over the course of a single day...

- Daily Deviation: We would both like to thank =FallenUmbra and `Gwendolyn12 for their kindness in suggesting this as a Daily Deviation We truly hope this will help this become part of the final release.

- Short Description: To clarify, we are talking about this area: [link] it's an area in your message center that by selecting that button in the top right of the picture, you will view it this way.
It is also the short description on the +news page.

One gripe I have: Currently with the Beta version when a deviant links on my journal, my shoutboard and journal links do not show. A deviant would have to specifically click on "journal" to see all the work I have put into my shoutboard, which is a premium member perk. It won't be much of a perk if no one ever sees it. I am sure all things are being considered before the final version is released, though, and I'd like to see an option to be able to click on the shoutboard.

Another thing I noticed is the CSS is just off. The header and footer is tiny and doesn't show properly. On my stock site, I now have four castles showing instead of the one main one when a journal is opened up. I have searched for the PSD file, so I can post a larger size on Photobucket, but, of course, I cannot find it ~ it doesn't help that I changed computers. My hubby got a new one and I took his since it is only three-years old and my other is five and a half-years old (at least Macs have longevity!). Anyhoo, I digress: It seems the CSS will still look fine on the profile page, but not so much in full journal view.

Why journals have to have categories

Sorry, I don't deal with change very well, though the way you presented this idea was easy to read.

I like these suggestions ,I just hope that they will keep the journals displayed in our profile pages like they used to .

Although I would just prefer if they keep the whole system and just add a small button next to our journals ,in case anyone want to fave it.

MAN. This is pretty cool.

I'm not sure I like the journal thing- but I'm an experienced deviant, so yeah, it all seems simple to me.
You're right about a new deviant though, my friend is new and she keeps calling me asking me all kinds of stuff, one of the first things was how to submit a journal.

So I can see how this would be handy, I guess.

I don't like the new option, however, where journals are set up like deviations...That has been totally annoying- however submitting it like a deviation would be pretty cool. Though I also like having the skin behind the text when I type it out.
I've just got mixed feelings about it, really.

I love the news set up you chose though. That is far cleaner and very cool. Love it.

All in all, I think it's a totally good idea.

I don't understand what the "short description" thing is when submitting a journal. Could you please explain it? What's its purpose?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TimberClipse In reply to ShankSilenzikilu [2011-07-18 18:09:10 +0000 UTC]

If you view journals so that they show part of the start of it, such as can happen with news, then this will change that description

These are settings in your message center.

wow. someone would not want faves? how else are they going to know how much they are "worth"
or was it for those who have a catagory of "terrible, scary" things.

don't want that, don't make garbage like those things, like dogs cutting and using heroin.

How about an "Art Commission" category for the journal section? I could use that

TimberClipse In reply to MiraKHall [2011-07-18 16:16:28 +0000 UTC]

That would be a good addition! There are lots of categories we didn't think of that could be suggested during a BETA version using these changes!

EricForFriends [2011-07-18 10:48:14 +0000 UTC]

Congratulations on your DD!
A glaring disadvantage - but not a damning one - is that the form puts "News" so prominently next to "Journal". Self-obsessed whiners ... er... ooops, sorry... less considerate dA members are abusing the News feature too much already, now newbies who don't bother to look up the difference between "Journal" and "News article" will be added to the fray. It can't be in our all best interests that disappointing birthday presents, tiffs between yaoi fandoms and general school boredom take over the News sections as "news" feats, like they have ruined the "Today" page.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

TimberClipse In reply to EricForFriends [2011-07-18 11:20:43 +0000 UTC]

We do, (sort of) try to help that with 2 ways:

1. dA news doesn't have a personal section/about me section, Journals do.

2. On the dA News Page, we edited the text above the submit button to say something about dA News. Hopefully that will help. Perhaps it could be expanded to even define news further?

Thanks for the idea!

xTernal7 [2011-07-18 10:25:48 +0000 UTC]

Nice. Next step, unified favs.

By that, I mean that in deviation view of news article, you have one fav, but on standard news page, you have 4.
(Example: [link] this and [link] this.)

It should be 5 favs, not 1 fav on one version, and 4 on the other.
