Story:

  "Uggggh," David sighed as he watched from the rail, his binoculars pressed to his sunburned face, "Of course, he has a rough start."

  "I'm sure everything will work out. As long as he places Tony will be happy," Kira said, rubbing David's back slightly. They continued to watch in silence.

  "And its Foxfire to take the early lead, with a very fast break. Artistic Differences, Jack the Ripper, and You Remember Lucifer are all nose to nose fighting for second, third and fourth. Settled in behind them is Synesthesia, with Hidalgo Wannabe directly behind. Shariq ibn Khalid trails the field by half a length," the announcer called quickly over the smaller PA system. It seemed that Fox was determined to hold the lead for most of the way, while Badger, Luci, and Ripper all literally had a quarrel midrace.

"Are they actually having a fit during the race?" Kira asked, trying to see.

"It looks like it," David said, "I hope theyre so worried about battling with each other that they tire themselves out so Syn can sneak around."

"That would be nice," kira said with a chuckle at her husbands wit. The race was pretty much the same through the first and second turn, with Syn quietly stalking behind the toddlers in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

"As they make their way through the backstretch, Foxfire is still holding onto the lead. Artistic Differences has won the dispute for second place, with You Remember Lucifer hot on his tail. Half a length back is Jack the Ripper with Synesthesia on his heels. Oh, wait! Synesthesia is making his move on the rail!" the announce called, getting excited as the action began to start.

"Its a bit early, but alright," David grumbled, watching what was going on very carefully. Kira remained quiet, just watching in suspense.

"He's passed Jack the Ripper. He's now passing You Remember Lucifer. Hold on! You Remember Lucifer is not alright with that and has answered his challenge! Behind them Jack the Ripper is trying to follow suit. Hidalgo Wannabe is moving up on the rail with Shariq ibn Khalid starting to move up around the outside," the announcers excitement was getting to the small crowd. People were at the rail cheering for their favorites.

"come on, come on," David said, starting to get into a little chant himself, that only him and kira could hear. It brought a smile to her face, listening to him quietly will his horses on.

"At the end of the stretch there seems to have been a disturbance. Looks like a rabbit or something ran across the track into the the infield, causing Synesthesia to lose some momentum. Hes got ground to make up now from the progress he was making before!" the announcer said shocked.

David held his breath as the horses entered the third turn, letting a frustrated grunt escape his clenched teeth. Now the colt was going to have to work twice as hard. Dammit! He watched in agony as they events unfolded before him on the home stretch. Syn was trying to make up his ground the best he could, Jason urging him with everything. It seems Fox was going to be hard to catch if the colt could muster it.

The suspense was unbearable. He couldnt close his eyes, but he couldnt watch either. So he kept his eyes glued to Syn. Who was putting in a great effort. He had switched leads, but only in the back. Like he had that day that Tony went to check him out at the sale. David shook his head. That was crazy. Why only in the back? As they grew dangerously close to the wire, David let out a breath before pulling another one back in. Who was is going to be?
