“D-don't take it the wrong way, I'm not showing you these girls specifically because I want to show off how varied and expansive my orphanage is or anything” Katy suddenly spoke out.

“I never said that” you tell her.

“Yes, of course, I mean this one is still within your experience range and very safe of course, so let's bring her out” Katy said.

A girl bustles into the room wearing what looked like a backpack made out of weeds and stuffed to the brim with...stuff? A young girl roughly appearing to be in her pre-teen years and covered in green. Her skin was pale lime green, her hair was a bright and lovely color of jade green and done in spiky pigtails. Her pigtails held by lichen with little daisies attached to them. She had on a frilly thin vest made of cotton with matching shorts, held together by thick fuzzy lichen on her hips. She also wore lichen leggings topped with more daisies strapped randomly on the leggings.

“I-I've got everything we need for this lesson Katy!” The girl assured.

“Excellent dear, well I can see from your face you have no idea what she is. Understandable of course, you can't have learned about all mammone from Praxis after all. She is called a Lichen a symbiotic relationship between algae and fungi.” Katy introduced.

“That means plant right?!” The Lichen was quick to speak up.

“...Sure, why not” Katy simply said. "It's not..." Katy quickly whispered in your ear so the young girl didn't hear.

“Uh, what's wrong with her le-” you were about to ask until Katy's tail suddenly wrapped itself around your mouth. She drew herself close, her face inches from yours. The Lichen girl tilts her head confused at the scene.

“Listen little one, there are things you don't say in front of a girl, especially of the mammone variety so let's just keep questions like that out of this. No need to cause a scene, 'kay dear?” Katy murmured smiling though her tone had a nerve wracking chill to it that gave you goosebumps.

You nod your head and that was enough for Katy to release you.

“Eh? What's wrong with what? A-are my flowers crooked?” The Lichen asked adjusting her pigtails.

Katy looked back at you, eyes narrowing.

“N-nothing's wrong! Nothing at all, they look great on you!” You quickly dismiss yourself.

“R-really! Thanks bud!” The Lichen thumbs up you.

“*Phew* anyway, Lichen can be found almost anywhere lichen and Demonic energy intertwine, much like Alraunes, but what makes them unique is their ability to grow on any extreme environment and even flourish. Active volcanoes, crags, deserts, tundras, the list goes on, really you can spot a lichen campsite in just about any environment.

“It's a whole big world out there and we just gotta see it all!” The Lichen exclaimed.

"When lichen are born they undergo what they call 'tearing' in which they yank themselves out of a surface they grew from. At that point they immediately set out to find mates to pair up with for future camping exploits. They are the great adapters that can survive in any extreme conditions better than most monster, human, mage, or even beast-kin and they are very adventurous especially when they are young” Katy said.

“That's pretty neat” you remark.

“Pretty neat!? No that's completely off the walls awesome!” The Lichen exclaimed.

“Lichen often keep themselves attached to the surface of something until they mature though there are cases where the more impatient ones 'tear' out of their confines and start exploring early. Like this Lichen for instance, and that's where Lichen children come from” Katy said.

“I'm a real go getter I guess” the Lichen responded.

“A father to a Lichen will quickly discover just how friendly and energetic they are, and they are very-very friendly. Again stiff competition for others in terms of friendliness. Always close to daddy's side and cheering him up with merriment and adventure, of course this means going out a lot with them. In fact some parents are always on the move with their daughter going from to place to place exploring continent after continent” Katy said.

“Hey-hey what do you think about camping!?” The Lichen chimed.

“Haven't done it since I was kid.” you confess.

“What! You're totally missing out then, come on! Let's camp, let's camp right now!” The Lichen insisted.

“Now, now little one we'll be camping out soon enough, but why don't you show him your little tent while I keep talking?” Katy said.

“Really! Okay, you're gonna like it pal, it's really cool!” The Lichen piped up

She set her backpack down and began to work unraveling it. It didn't look like she was pulling anything out of it, but rather molding it like clay as she attempts to make it into a tent inside the classroom.

“When they're young they also tend to play around with the lichen they can grow themselves, it's not uncommon to see their room covered in lichen every which way so cleaning that mess up would be a top priority, also make sure her room has plenty of sunlight” Katy said.

You see the Lichen begin to prop her lichen tent up, with lichen...

“Lichen children are amazing friends and they always have that one best friend they'll never forget, often thinking about their future exploits together. Those lucky recipients of her heart will find themselves abound for adventure, albeit not the safest honeymoons” Katy said.

“I'm building up my tent~, with lichen in my hands~, this will impress somebody~” the lichen suddenly sang to herself.

“Is that a thing too?” You ask.

“Maybe, I don't know, it's probably just a thing she thought of on her own, they're kind of like that” Katy said.

“And now I prop this thing~ to make it stand up tall~, to sleep with my best buddy~” the Lichen continued.

“It is looking pretty good I have to admit” you notice.

“And with this final touch~, nothing will end up bad-” the Lichen continued.

Then in an instant her tent fell down flat.

“It all went horribly bad! No~hoho~” The Lichen wailed. “...And now I'm sad~” the Lichen murmured her song.

“Even children can't build a really nice tent, it takes a lot of practice and lichen to make it right” Katy concluded.

“Wow she looks so disheartened” you notice.

“I bet she wanted to show you how cool her tent was going to be, maybe you can help her out while I finish our lecture” Katy said.

“Oh uh sure, okay, never done this before though” you reluctantly agree.

Moving beside the Lichen child you go to work rebuilding the tent giving back her smile.

“Another case of miss popularity, they can befriend others with her 'go get em' attitude and friendliness. Elementary school, middle school even high school they are quite well known, and some cases popular. But it's who they deem their 'best friend' in which they truly dote over. They'll also drag their siblings on adventures of their own be it camping in the backyard or exploring the park. They cherish every memory they have of them camping with their brother to heart, and if they accept they could be the ones they'll travel with for the rest of their lives" Katy hinted.

“Oh~ I see where the problem is. Here you have to prop it like this” you instruct as the two of you finish up.

“A Lichen can be a skilled adventuress and explorer, so if you can get paid for doing that in this day and age, then by all means go for it. They can also be lifesavers as rangers in more treacherous woods, tour guides for said woods, and just about anything involving nature, they can even be skilled botanists if they take the time to study for it” Katy said.

“There, that looks much sturdier” you call out admiring the tent the two of you created.

“It looks better than ever!” the Lichen squealed

She slipped inside and promptly stuck her head through the entrance.

“Come on in! It's nice and cozy!” The Lichen invited.

“...It looks a little small” you realize as it barely reached above your knees.

“Oh come on, suck in that gut, here I'll help you” Katy said.

“Huh, no I think-hey! Katy let go of me-not you too!” You cry out as both Katy and the Lichen girl push and pull you into the tent.

You were right, it was too small for you, and it took a full ten minutes and a bath to get all the lichen off your body...
