Children are a wondrous, splendid, more or less annoying things, but most importantly they are our future. Yet while we focus on what their future will bring for us, we sometimes fail to think of what their future will hold for them.

We take our parents for granted at times, yes they're not the best teachers, or even caretakers, and neither will we once we become parents ourselves, but they stayed besides us all the way until it was time to leave the nest.

Some children aren't so lucky...

No father to guide them, no mother to nurture them, not even a sibling to support them; these 'little ones' are alive in the world with no goal or purpose, and with a deep pain of neglect stinging their hearts. But inside their little bodies is a light of hope that one day they will find a loving family that will take them in, and unleash the potential bottled up inside.

This is where the 'Little Monster Miracle Orphanage' comes into play...

A young couple drive away from the city limits into a forest of lush green pines, maple, and oak trees towering the sky and providing a much needed shade from the heat of summer. After some time they are left wondering if they took the correct road, but they wonder no more when they see the building towering even higher than the trees themselves.

A creamy white paint covered the four story building with a convenient, and recently built parking lot in front of it.

Parking their modest car they stare anxiously at the building before walking hand in hand inside the building.

The white tile floor was polished to a shine, the walls matched the creamy white of the outside, and the hallway in front of them was lit up with fluorescent bulbs on the ceiling, but oddly enough the couple spotted unused black stoned lanterns decorating the walls in unison with both sides of each other.

Already they can hear the pitter patter of little feet, and the chimes of voices coming from deeper withing the building but their attention was turned immediately to their left where lone double doors stood. 'Office' simply written in the center of it.

The young man knocks on the door and a voice answers him.

“Come in~” A cheery voice sang out.

The odd, but welcoming tone put their minds at ease if only for the moment and the two opened the door and walked inside.

Greeting them was a vision of both beauty and myth.

She had long bouncy hair of venom green ending in a hue of electric blue stretching several inches above her tips. Her eyes were wide, glistening and with green reptilian pupils looking over a metaphorical mountainside of paperwork. Her beauty and youth deceived her true age making her appear as a woman in her late twenties. Her expression soft, stern, but just as beautiful as she would appear smiling. Her skin was a perfect caramel brown from her many relaxing moments of sunbathing. Either it was due to the heat, or her own personal choice she wore a simple electric blue mid-driff top with a neck-line exposing her shoulders and complimenting her large bosom as well as displaying her waistline, and hips showing the curves of her body better than even some swimsuits.

If her eyes weren't a dead give-away then the long snake-tail acting as her lower half would certainly make it clear she wasn't human. A simple matching blue loincloth covered her unmentionables, and from then on her tail stretched several feet with the scales intricately colored green and blue in a diamond pattern.

“My apologies if I didn't greet you at the door, we had taken in a few new little ones and I was suddenly swamped with paper-work...again~” She sighed before snapping out of her annoyed face and turning back to her guests. “Anywho! How may I help you?” She smiled warmly at them.

“Ah~ yes, well, are you Kaitlyn-” the man began.

“Please, call me Katy...it makes me feel young again” the snake-woman introduced herself.

“Okay, Katy...we've come here looking to adopt. I have...personal issues as to why we can't have a child of our own, and we both agreed we still wanted to raise one and so we came here” the young woman replied.

“I see~ it's a very kind gesture on your part to wish to raise one of my children as your own...but do you know what you're getting yourselves into?” Katy asked them.

“We've been planning this for weeks now, we brought the paperwork which you might want to look over if you're not convinced” the man replied.

“Please-no more paperwork! I-I'll just...why don't we take a little walk around and chit-chat for a bit. My body feels so stiff, my tail has been coiled like this for a while now” Katy seemed happy to find an excuse to leave her office room. “Oh! By the way, do stick close to me...if this is your first time here, you'll be surprised to know you can easily find yourself lost in my little...labyrinth-yeah let's call it that” Katy grinned before leaving her office, the two couple quickly following close behind her.

The three walked along the hallway, and it wasn't long until they faced the first of possibly numerous twists and turns the building contained. The four way intersection and the signs along the walls pointed out to where the paths will lead.

“Where do you want to go first?” Katy asked.

“...Um~ pardon?” The young woman replied.

“Oh! Well perhaps a better question would be...what kind of child are you looking to adopt? I'm not entirely happy to tell you, but we carry all kinds unfortunately” Katy said.

She certainly didn't sound like she was happy to brag about her collection, in fact she appeared almost disappointed to tell them that.

“W-well we want someone a little on the quiet side...we've read and study a lot on how to be parents, but we've never had a child of our own so~” the young woman tried to explain, but couldn't quite bring herself to be picky.

“...I understand, and I also understand if you are reluctant for specifics, you two are really nice that much I know, but finding you the perfect little one up your alley is also important...I take it maybe the draconic kind are off the list?” Katy half-joked.

“Nothing in our house is fire-proof” the young man explain.

“In that case we shall head off toward the library, a lot of the studious soft-nature children reside there” Katy replied before turning left.

The trio walked silently to themselves as they headed toward the library when from out of the wall a transparent, blue glowing child ran through spooking the couple.

A young girl just hitting her double digits with long straight hair, and wearing an old Victorian dress with many frills on the collar, hem of her skirt, and at the end of the sleeves. However; the dress itself was devoid of much color, a rather pale white glowing only ever so slight much like the girl herself, even her eyes were a tad milky with pale black eyes.

She giggled thinking she gave her chaser the slip until she stared at Katy giving her a stern gaze.

“Now-now we taught you, use the doors little one” Katy gently scolded.

“O-okay, sorry Katy~” the ghost girl moaned, her voice almost echoing the hall and sounding far away.

“That's a good girl” Katy replied patting her head. “Now you better get going or else you might get caught” Katy smiled.

Just then one of the doors open and out came a young boy dressed in a simple white shirt and black shorts. The simplicity of his clothing only rivaled by the added additions he was born with. Pointy black wolf ears on his messy, black short cut hair, and a fluffy black tail wagging frantically to and fro. His arms and legs resembling that of a wolf's paws, and feet.

“Hey that's cheating! no going through walls!” The boy cried out.

The ghost girl stuck her tongue out mockingly before flying across the hall with the boy giving chase.

“Lot of energy these kids have today” Katy commented before moving forward.

They had finally reached the double doors of the library which Katy opened for the couple, and their eyes marveled at the spectacle.

Dozens of children all of them of various traits from horns, to scales, to beings of complete slime, and several covered head to toe in fur. There were even a few children with the lower half of spiders and other insects keeping to themselves in the more private corners.

“Here we are, oh! The library also has a second floor which you can take using the stair-case to your left. Now let's get to know some of them shall we?” Katy offered.

One child they met had off colored blue skin, and short white hair. Her light brown dress and slippers smelled of fresh soil and her eyes had no glow to them, they were dull with large black pupils.

“I hope Rin took good care of you little one. When you first came in you couldn't keep your wrists from falling off” Katy giggled a bit.

“Yeah! She was super helpful look!” The little girl replied.

She wiggled her hands all over the place until Katy couldn't contain her giggling and gently held them to show her she has seen enough.

“That's great to hear little one! You've been through enough as it is...” Katy said giving her head a soft rub before whisking her away.

“I-Is she...” the father began.

“...Passed away a year ago and we had just taken her in about a week ago...needless to say the religion her parents followed deemed her a...an abomination...an affront to god...Unforgivable” Katy practically spat before quickly snapping out of it and turning to the couple.

“M-my apologies! I-I don't know what came over me...well maybe it's best if you took the time to look around yourselves. I'll stay here and look over the children. Just come to me when you've made up your mind” Katy assured.

The couple nodded, but were a tad hesitant at first. The kids here were a little on the shy side and none of them approached them directly. Regardless they had a pleasant time with the kids they did approach, but it only made their ultimate choice that much harder to make.

As they consulted one another, the young woman was suddenly bumped on her side.

“Oh! I-I'm sorry! I'm still growing into this hat!” A girl squeaked out.

The girl with the hat had a height and look of someone in her early years of eleven, and hailed from the beast-kin clan as she appeared to be an anthropomorphize fox girl with a soft auburn red coat, and a long bushy tail ending in a white tip. She wore a wide brimmed red witch's hat with holes cut for her tall pointy fox ears to poke out. Her eyes were a vibrant green, wide and curious though now staring nervously up at the couple. Complimenting her hat she wore a red tunic with a black belt around her waist with a silver square buckle. Looking lower her legs were bare, the hind legs of a fox, small but light; she's a girl who can be very quick on her feet.

Her furry paws clutched at a dark brown hard covered book, a silver white insignia of stars, lines, and circles were drawn on the cover.

“Oh wow! I've seen those hats before, can you really do magic?” the woman asked.

The little fox girl eyes widen and she nodded. Practically skipping away to set her book on the table before returning and fumbling in her pockets to pull out a small rather insignificant looking wand.

“I-it's not much, but I'm learning the basics” She piped up.

She aimed her wand at the book she had checked out and left on the table, her eyes shut tight as she murmured to herself.

“Kame-ti-lofta!” She chanted and the couple watched as the book began to hover several inches before she set it gently back down onto the table where she was given a small round of applause.

“That's actually very interesting. I've never seen magic in person up close” the man commented.

“What kind of shampoo do you use to get your tail that soft?” The woman quickly asked.

“E-eh? I-I don't know...” the girl asked as she swished her tail forward to look at it better.

The young woman couldn't help but elicit a little squeal seeing the little fox-girl inspect her tail.

“Can I touch too?” the young woman pleaded as she knelt down to meet her at eye level.

“Uh~ o-okay, but not so rough okay” she reluctantly agreed.

Spending the next half-hour talking and stroking her tail and ears, the young couple quickly made up their minds and approached Katy idly browsing through the books along the shelves. Katy glanced at the trio with large grins on their faces and she smiled knowingly.

They quickly retreated to her office with the young fox-girl splitting off to grab her things.

“I'm so happy you made this decision” Katy praised them.

“I just couldn't say no at some point, she's so adorable, and so~ sweet” the young woman replied.

“She's also quick with her head, I see no problems with sending her to college in the long run” the young man added.

“That's great to hear! She's very studious after all. From what we've gather her mother's side are beast-kin, but her father was a gifted mage. Obviously having traits from both parents she has a lot of potential and possibilities” Katy explained.

“That reminds me...if that's the case where are they now?” The young woman replied.

Katy slumped back, mulling over her thoughts before responding.

“...I'm afraid I can't rightfully tell you...I recall her telling us not to tell her story until she is ready to trust someone herself. I'm sure over time she'll explain her predicament to you in the near future though...I can tell you this however; her past won't affect you in any way...it's her own personal burden” Katy answered.

A knock on the door and moments later the fox witch return clutching a small green suitcase and beaming at her new parents.

Signing the paperwork Katy deemed them her official family, and whisked them away with an assurance that she'll drop by later in the future to see how well they're doing.

She stared back from her window watching the new family already laughing at some joke they told before driving away, and looked back at her paper-work before sighing.

“...I hope another family comes in soon...” Katy mumbled before she picked up a pen and resumed her work.
