Man there was a lot of spanking going on in Fantastic Four back in the day. I think it needs to return. It may not be politically correct, but these are not real people.
I Haven't drawn the Thing in decades, so I hope I did a good job here. I tried a little different technique with the color, using the Copic marker tools in Sketchbook Pro. I wanted to get that sketchy, bleeding color to emulate old school comics on newsprint. I guess I could have tinted the paper to.
New Blurb:
I was wondering what was going on with the flat color layer when I went back to remaster it. I essentially had to re-flat the whole thing. Also, I can't believe I had the balls to do the Thing in one pass and not pencil/ink it. What was I thinking back then? I was probably just trying to bang this shit out and save time. The original version looks fine, but I think the new version is a bit more punchy. I really like the piece with all grey with just the airbrush tints to convey detail. The spanking trope, the B/W film look and the fact it's 1961 FF makes it look like an old time movie or TV show. That's awesome! I would love to see them make a TV show, where they use CG, like the Avengers to do the thing, but everything else look campy like the 66' Batman show, with all the sensibilities of the swinging 60s. If they got Doc Hammer from Venture Brothers to write it and make it comedic, it would rock! See what I did there?
