Description Recently, I become interested in Glitch art. According to wikipedia: "Glitch art is the practice of using digital or analog errors for aesthetic purposes by either corrupting digital data or physically manipulating electronic devices.  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glitch_a…

I discovered a site, Photomosh  photomosh.com/ , where you can modify any image or video with many different glitch effects. I used one photo of my Pullip doll to create these nine pictures.  www.deviantart.com/tinywild/ar…

While creating this, I listened to electro and chiptune music, like the song Coloris, by a musical project called She, which inspired me the title of this deviation.    www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTY7UV…

But are glitch effects actually glitches, or just effects? How much of the art in glitch art is in the process, and how much in the product?

True Glitch are either actual glitches caused by for instance data transfer errors (the black line that you very rarely get when you upload a picture here) or when you actively change the ASCII code of an image.

The One True Glitch cannot be classified - if you are expecting it then it's not a glitch! The Way Of The Glitch is long .... and winding .... and slightly broken.

But always interesting

It's exactly what I was looking for! It's a fascinating edge case in art creation - a known image and a known process combined into a never-before-seen image. The process is 100% repeatable, unlike a photo or a drawing or a piece of writing so where is the "art"? Is there any? And of course there is - it's where it always is: in the mind of the creator who saw the possibility or recognised the result as being new, inventive, significant .... artistic. People who recreate the art precisely are not creating it because it already exists, they are recreating it. Art is creative.

All that is IMO of course. There will be others who say "but a machine randomly crunching algorithms together could have 'created' this exact same thing so why is it art?" And they have a point - one day algorithmically-generated art will be the most prolific source of new images I would expect. Will it be art or just a different kind of reality (which also generates beautiful random images every day )? If an AI can create works that other people would call art then is it an artist? or just lucky and well-trained? Is art really in the eye of the viewer? Tracey Emin's famously unartistic art is a prime example of this strange conflict - but deliberately so, because she is a kind of genius.

It's a big area for a discussion - one I imagine is already happening in many places.
