                                  Shut In

Looking around the dark room, I realized I didn’t know where I was. A single pale light bulb illuminated the room, but it was very dim.  All I could really see were the four black walls that surrounded me. There was no door, or any windows; nothing of a much desired escape.

“The fish are trapped”, a voice behind me whispered.

Twirling around quickly I saw a little boy of about five, maybe six. He was pale as a ghost with long hair as black as pitch. I caught just a glimpse of his eyes behind the sheet of hair covering the most part of his face so I couldn’t be sure, but I thought his eyes were yellow. Confusion swept over me, there wasn’t anyone in this room before.

“Who are you?”  I asked just as quietly as he did.

“The fish are trapped”, He repeated - ignoring my question.

“I - I don’t understand”, I said, looking around again. There were no fish. The room was empty but the two of us.

“The fish are trapped and they can’t get out. They can see out, but they can’t get out. Just like you.”

The walls around me dissolved into nothing, and the boy was gone. I looked around me and saw my family. I tried to reach out to them but they were just out of my grasp. I tried to yell to them but they acted like they couldn’t hear me. Then I realized – they couldn’t. I was surrounded by glass. The walls were all glass. They whole world was there watching me but I couldn’t reach them. I was nothing now but the silent observer.

Then I woke up.
