Normally I would never comment on a necro comment that's nearly 4 years old, but the fact you mentioned you're using the demo of MI compels me to tell you to upgrade from that archaic pieceย of software.
Seriously though it has so many new features and improvements that it almost warrants it being called a decent piece of animation software

That means the new install is conflicting with the old version, isolate the demo in it's own folder which is not named mineimator before installing. Or install the new MI in a different area
