Description
Taken at the Indianapolis Zoo - Indianapolis, INOne of the reasons I was excited to get to this zoo was for the cheetah exhibits that *Guard-of-the-Citadel promised would be fantastic for someone like me. And she was right! There are two enclosures--one for the female cheetahs and one for the two male cheetahs (Correct me if I'm wrong Cynthia). This one of the females in the big exhibit who stopped to glance over at me while I shot her photo through the glass.
One thing I really loved about this exhibit is that if the elephants are in the right location, you can get a photo of a cheetah with an elephant evident in the background--it can look more natural than the standard black fencing.
Some interesting facts about cheetah is that the word 'cheetah' derives from the Indian word meaning "spotted one" and back in the day Akbar the Great of India (third Mughal Emporer) was said to have kept a stable of about 1,000 of them. Why couldn't I have been his friend??!

I absolutely adore that zoo. I went in October to the Dolohin Training 101 camp, which was incredible. Those cheetahs are grumpy though XD
I'm trying to convince my parents to go to Indy this summer.

That's exactly right, Taryn. They do not mix the males and the females. The females are in the main exhibit and the boys are kinda on the side exhibit. And this shot is an excellent example of why I love this exhibit so much! These girls will really look at you!!! When this exhibit opened, I was on the other side, the side without the glass, and one of the girls stopped her pacing routine and locked eyes with me!! It was soooo cool! Sent chills up my spine! They definitely like to look at the folks!

I love that they're not afraid to take a look at you for the sake of the photos and to say "I locked stared with a cheetah"!!

It's a most unique experience!!! Other zoos I've been to the cheetahs could care less that folks are there, but these girls are really interested in people! I don't know if it's the manner in which this exhibit has been designed which encourages this or not, but it certainly works. They pace back and forth past that window and often will make eye contact with you! A most satisfying experience, at least for me it is!!!!

I also noticed that when kids took part in the Race a Cheetah thing, they would get VERY interested too. LOL

Hmmm. I wonder why the leopard didn't get that name then. I suppose it has something to do with where its habitat was, like maybe it was nowhere near India. And great shot, I love the expression you caught on her face.
