Taken at the Akron Zoo - Akron, OHThe American Bald Eagle has long been associated with freedom and liberty as it was adopted as the national bird for the United States. Ironically, Benjamin Franklin was against the bird, feeling it was lazy and a cowardly bird and instead wanted the turkey to be the national bird. Which, ironically, has been considered a slang term to call someone a coward.
