I understand what you mean, it must be complicated to make a scene like this interesting without making it boring, so yeah in that case i think its better to keep it shorter to avoid making it boring and repetitive for being too long.
And yeah i know what you mean with the "wrongΒ kind of crowd" i agree its better to not attract that kind of people at all.
