Description
Next PageA side comic for and a follow up to my "A Visit With Dad" storyline.
When we last saw Professor Goyle, he had learned from his father that the Elusian monsters are dying mysteriosly. He theorized that the deaths were related to the fusion rods that were scattered all over the world during the crossover event last summer. Goyle believes that the rods may have carried with them some sort of disease, and he's concerned that the disease may infect anybody who was exposed to it. Now he's going to try to find out if his theory is correct. He enlisted fellow Thunder Force member Mr. Happy to help him with his experiments. Hopefully, everything will go well and nothing will go wrong whatsoever.
Also, the look Professor Goyle is sporting here is his lab coat. It's his special outfit that he uses only in the lab while performing experiments. A lab is no place for a suit. The look Mr. Happy is sporting here is what I'm attributing to one of Mr. Happy's spontaneous transformations, to demonstrate just how science-y he is, and it won't be showing up again in this comic.

Great idea developing this story - and I love Mr Happy's reaction to the idea that involvement in this could lead to serious injury! Looking forward to seeing where you take this storyline

Heh love the look Happy is sporting. And while Mr Happy is an artist it just so turns out that as a HUGE nerd he is indeed quite science-y. This should be a fun bit. Also for future reference since Mr Happy is not biologcal he has no fear of microbes. Radiation however....

I actually wasn't aware that he was science literate. Silly me for assuming a stretchy, comedic character with a perpetual smiley face couldn't also have a brain. I might need to rewrite the next few pages to keep from embarrassing myself further.
I did assume that Mr. Happy wouldn't have much fear of extraterrestrial germs, which happens to be the reason Professor Goyle chose him to be his assistant. Although in this story, neither Mr. Happy nor Professor Goyle are in any danger of microbes or radiation. High powered laser beams on the other hand....

No harm no foul, I haven't shown anything in my comics as of yet that would let you know he was into science so don't feel embarrassed. In fact his comments can easily be taken as just him joking about at Goyle's expense. Mr Happy is actually rather secretive and puts up a lot of different fronts as he likes to be underestimated. Since I base Mr Happy on myself you can determine a lot about him just by paying attention to me. I have a high IQ but I don't quite make it to genius levels. Therefore Mr Happy could grape concepts Goyle might discuss but he certainly couldn't produce tech or equations like he can. If you think of Mr Happy as a smart nerd/geek with a passion for trivia and a special insight into how super powers function (that at least I have demonstrated) then you'll be fine. If you ever have questions feel free to ask but have no fear Im not worried about how anyone in the DU writes Mr Happy as I think Ive defined his overall character quite well. Someone would have to have him do something wildly out of character for it to upset me in anyway.

I just really like to be true to a creator's vision of their character any time I try to write them. Which can be very hard since it's literally impossible to jump inside of their head and see what they're going for. Sometimes, it's even hard for me to get my own characters right, as strange as that may sound. But I'm happy that you seem to be satisfied with my attempts so far. I just hope I can keep it up.
