Description OK as mentioned, this is probably going to be my last 'for fun' DAZ work and is for participation in DCC's Awesome Alt Girl challenge.

As such I wanted to try and get this one as good as I could and see if I could work in as much of what Ive learned in DAZ which is not a great deal and this is more like the style I was doing when I was working on my old mac. I still so can't do nice hair!

I based her on the always amazing and beautiful Miss Mosh [link] as it is her birthday tomorow. The shoot style and clothing are inspired from the first time I saw her on the Cover of Bizzare magazine and I though 'Oh my god! I have her on watch!' I've bought Bizzare magazine every month since then, hahaha.

Comments and crit are welcome as always .

I think it looks awesome! Sorry, I don't know enough about this kind of art to give a worthwhile critique.

Haven't really attempted to render latex at all so I 'll not comment on that. The lighting is good, though I would haveused a softer setting..make it less harsh! maybe use Dreamlight's studio pro? The pose is excellent and the hair helps set this nautralness! The red back drop sets the scene! All in all an excellent piece!

I dont have anylighting sets other than what comes with DAZ advanced and I've still not tried things ambient lights etc. Maybe I should have just knocked my key light down a bit or changed up my IBL map.

Thanks for the comments and feedback

Its from DAZ, I messed witht he morphs to get it to look like it was hanging with her pose ande then also added extra loose 'flicks' of hair in Photoshop.

Thanks for the comments

Its really cool made. I tried to do the hair in photoshop. But atm it wouldnΒ΄t work so good. DidnΒ΄t look so good that iΒ΄m satisfied with it.

Wow, the lighting you're using is really helping with the realism. My only issue is the choppiness of the edges? I wonder how that happened, and how it can be remedied?

Otherwise, it looks super!

Yeah, I have no idea where thse jaggies came from as they are the first time I have ever had them in a render. I suppose they could be touched up with photoshop, but at the same time I am more curious about how/why they got there in the first place. I'll have to check my preview renders to see if they were appearing when I was trying out other poses and lighting.

Thanks for the comments and the feedbacl

Sure no problem!

PW-Fotografie In reply to Spookeriffic [2011-08-20 19:27:20 +0000 UTC]

You can reduce the choppines of the edges with a simple trick. Make the render in, perhaps, 3000x4000 pixel. Then scale it down in Photoshop at 1500x2000 pixel. And, tada, the edges are nice smooth. Ok, the render time in poser or Daz are awesome but result is very nice.

Spookeriffic In reply to PW-Fotografie [2011-08-20 20:27:39 +0000 UTC]

That's typically the size I render to anyways (3000-4000px) but I don't end up with choppy edges.

PW-Fotografie In reply to Spookeriffic [2011-08-20 20:57:43 +0000 UTC]

I have render my few images in 3000x4000 too, but i scale them all down to 1500x2000. I think it is a good size for details and not too big or too small for DeviantArt. Its just like a manual anti-aliasing. And it works nearly perfect.

The pose is more natural than most Poser pieces, and the correct drape of the hair really helps 'sell' the piece. Good work - I actually thought it was a photo for a moment (and that's rare!).

hey! the bloodRayne outfit!
now, she's beautiful but you may enhanced the outfit texture pal ! you may use the fake reflection but about the diffuse map, use a true leather (and fix the bum mapping)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

toadz In reply to SquallLion1 [2011-08-20 15:52:36 +0000 UTC]

I am not going for a leather look, it is meant to be a PVC/Latex look or I would have used my usual home brew leather maps and settings like I use on Ivy. There are no diifues maps set to any of the clothing so that I cvould keep the flat one colour look to the areas. I am going for a pure latex/fetish modern look and wanted to stay away from bumpy looking leather as I often use that with things like the Gotham Sirens and my Tifa pics.

Thanks for the comments and feeedback, much appreciated

Yeah, I know how to do the leather effects, I even have my own leather scans from both real leather and faux leather that I got when I was still with rucomfy as well as scans of their cotton drill, indoor/outdoor, and faux suede materials.

The image's I used as my inspiration, Mosh was not wearing any leather at all, only latex. Thats why I did not do any leather or use any diffuse mats because it would not have looked like latex then, it would have been leather.

SquallLion1 In reply to toadz [2011-08-20 23:01:16 +0000 UTC]

your BR outfit is not leather but plastic.

toadz In reply to SquallLion1 [2011-08-20 23:47:18 +0000 UTC]

I don't know what you mean by BR outfit, and as I said, it had to be latex because I was basing the render on the shots in the magazine I had with Miss Mosh in (as I mentioned in the image description) and here is a link to the image that was used for the cover shot of the magazine [link] As you can see, no leather, hence me not using it. And personaly, I prefer latex to leather

The idea's great here, love that pose and her expression and attention there, and the lax looks ok. So here's quite a few crit since you want them (and no I don't think you're gonna just load this and leave us for good! Besides, I won't let you lol. So this crit will hopefully be useful to you). The hair's textures just looks strange, as well as the transmap as it doesn't look all much like real hair, but it's not your fault, it's the hair itself. Also the hair probably doesn't come with bump maps, so that part helps make it look fake/cartoony. If you loaded a hair with bump map that originally looks good, use my settings (I think you already got the freebie file) as it sets the speculars and bumps properly. The skin's setting appears to be either Human Surface Setting or UberSurface, and it looks like you got a little too much Sub Surface Scattering, but some people actually like that look, I'm too picky of a realistic artist though lol. The lax, looks a bit odd to be honest. Did you use a reflection map or is there nothing to reflect behind the camera? There's actually too much reflection if that's the case, but if it's the specular, it's glossiness can go up some to be more glossy. The large white/black area just looks a bit cartoony. The lips, being so red, is missing it's specular, it might be the specular map blocking it or your specular settings not set right. I gotta say, though, your art has definitely improved since you started here! If the cartoony look is what you're after, then I do apologize, then this image looks excellent.

I love the pose and expression though. I did warn you that my crits are down to the point, but you asked for it lol, so I do hope you don't get upset with me

Thanks for the feedback wolfie, its much apprecited. I did use a bump and spec map here and applied your hair settings as the ones I make for myself just dont cut it. I also added loose strangs in photoshop with my post work. I took the spec off her lips as I wanted a totaly flat look to her lip stick just like she had in the images I based this on. I think the SS might look so harsh because of how pale I made her skin look. Mosh has a really creamy white looking skin so the SS might be a bit to strong and adding to much 'warmth' to her. I used a reflection map on the latext and set it at about 22 strength I think it was.

Which bit of the image do you mean where you said 'The large white/black area just looks a bit cartoony' Do you mean on her legs? If so I think a better reflection map might of helped out here. Oh well, you live and learn eh!

Thanks for the crit and comments, and no I'm not upset with you. You know I always say the harsher the better so thanks for taking the time to give me some feedback

jamminwolfie In reply to toadz [2011-08-20 16:03:24 +0000 UTC]

You're absolutely welcome, friend! Yes, the strange white lines were in the reflection maps then. I think 22 is too high for lax, as I really don't think they reflect that much, plus I would take it out and add things behind the scene for the more realistic look (if not realistic, then at least in the art work respectively). Reflection maps on little stuff like jewelries are fine, but on big things, especially metal and lax, they tend to make things look cartoony, no matter how good they are. Good call back on the SSS, and you're right, though your skin does look nice, light and creamy, just a bit too creamy I did know you want me to get to the point on my crits, but in my experience with what I went through about critiquing people, it's better to apologize if it's too hard and give a fair warning (for others to view so they don't start a war) that you did want my honesty Just playing it safe lol!

As always, I'm glad you take mine and others' teachings to heart, it's what makes you a better artist, as apparently the way I've seen you get better with this stuff !

toadz In reply to jamminwolfie [2011-08-21 15:06:14 +0000 UTC]

I did try using natural reflection before setting the maps, but all of her clothing just went red, and there were know real 'highligh' relections like I wanted for the latex look. The maps work really nice down her gloves and around her ankle, but its the larger flatter areas whey they dont quite work right. If I ever make a return to DAZ I'll probably go straight for the scene again and try mixing the settings up a bit.

Again, thanks for all the crit and help you have given me over the months. I'll still be around commenting work from DAZ even if I;m not posting my own anymore.

Dude, seriously, all I can say is "mmmmmm" and then stare some more.

You nailed that latex look - what'd you do/use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

toadz In reply to Thyranq [2011-08-20 14:52:26 +0000 UTC]

For the latex I just use a simple reflection maps that has wide bands of straight lines at varying lengths set to about 15-25 strength depending on how I want the look. I stick my spec up to about 95-99 gloss and about 80 strength. I've always struggled with latex until I started the Gotham Sirens again and managed to get it right! I can send you a map to use if you like?

Thanks for the comments! She's not as a good as the real Miss Mosh, but she came out ok

Awesome - I actually got a nice latex-y reflection map with the HighBoots3 I picked up yesterday, so I'm content now
It's pretty much the same settings you're using, really.

You can still send me a map, though, if you want - can never have too much latex
