Tommy Frick and his pals strode out of Wellson’s Market, drinking sodas and laughing.

Mr. Wellson calls him “That Kid”.

“That kid steals magazines every week, I’m sure!” he said as Terry and I entered. “I just don’t know how.”

“Once a week?” I asked.

He nodded. “He comes every Wednesday”.

That night, watching the store, we caught Tommy swinging open the gates around Mr. Wellson’s dumpsters.

“The trash pickup is Thursday morning,” I explained to Terry, “This is the only night the gate’s left unlocked.”

Stolen magazines, from store trashcan, then to dumpster, then to Tommy, once a week.
