This BASICALLY happened when I was at a-fast-food-place-starting-with-MC (as if they would sue someone that's doing a webcomic for free).

Started out as a doodle comic, nothing special, two bears and a counter in the great white abyss. then the floor happened, which thus made the wall, and then the weird coloured speach bubbles that I adore when I read other people's comics (also then shading of course), and BAM. I had me a full out comic strip!
