Description And thus the rococo lady started to see the appeal of the new vogue...

Obviously, I realize there are ten billion inaccuracies in this. I do find it infinitely amusing that ladies' fashion went from the restriction of Rococo to the (relatively) natural Regency era...and then corseted back up for Victorian! Make up your minds, ladies! FASHION JOKES, HAHA?

Gotta love it! There's some fantastic cartoons from that era mocking the radical change:

The best part is that women managed to figure out how to wear a corset with the Regency era clothing. Granted, it's a bit more like a bra, but still...

I think when people grow tired of a fashion, it's tempting to make a big swing in the opposite direction. regency ladies were still corset bound, but that was all discretely hidden under a humble muslin gown giving everyone the illusion of a 'natural massive cleavage' while allowing girls to take bushy walks and be generally active, because in the romantic era, it was cool to appreciate nature. plus in the rococo era everyone wanted to be french, so I guess mid 1800s, we got a bit.. put off them? but anyway, the lighting and style of this is incredible, like a vintage magazine cover

Love, love, love this. Have often wondered why such restrictive corsets came back into fashion when during the Regency era they were nothing more that over the top bras. Silly fashion.

Although it's more the men made the decision not the ladies. Ladies can't move, ladies can't do anything.

I like the heart shape on his cheek though, pulls out the time period.

Yes of course, but still very amusing to me.

Fun fact: those little black cutouts in rococo makeup were to hide syphilis spots!!! They all had the syph, apparently. They're a running joke in a lot of old illustrations, actually, like a lot of Hogarth's sequentials.
