Yeh, I kind of felt the same way when I was photographing him. But I let my camera do the moulding.

You know, it's funny but back when I was shooting only film my main goal was to have as little grain as possible showing in the finished image. And now that I'm shooting mostly digital all I can think of is getting rid of the heavily saturated digital look and bringing texture and grain back into the game. In this particular image there was almost no grain visible in David's skin tones. And I loved it. But in reworking the image now I added texture back in. Grass always seems to be greener on the other side of the fence.

yes grain used to be the bane of the chemical age; but grain does add to some images as you know. adding textures and low saturation are some of your specialties

FP4 was always one of my favorites - faster than PanF but still soft - love the light in this one.

I've used a lot of different films over the years but for some reason was always more drawn to Ilford than any of the others. I have no problem with grain, I miss it, but there was just something about Ilford that smoothed and softened skin tones. Especially with medium format film. I've added texture here to the finished image - not to create grain but to create perhaps a little bit of a feel of stone. Unpolished marble to me is just as beautiful as polished.

I'm in total agreement. I always loved what I got with Ilford. Whatever added texture there is fits so well with this photograph that I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't "sent me looking" for it. Moot point. Wonderful photo.

Beautiful picture again. At the same time classical and free. Great texture and light revealing the beauty of muscles.

At 6ft 4 inches David redefines the term Adonis. There is no bad angle or position with him. Truly remarkable guy.
