Description
Like many superheroes, the Digidogs need souped-up vehicles to get to their destinations, and out of harm's way, in a timely manner. This is the Rumble Howler, a quick and nimble little car based heavily on the Shelby Cobra (possibly my favorite all-time muscle car). Although it isn't the Digidogs' flagship vehicle (I haven't gotten the design down just yet, though I will likely base that off of the 60's Ford GT or modern C8 Corvette. It will definitely be a mid-engine, four-door vehicle.), it is an excellent choice for tight city driving, as it has supeb handling as well as a quick 0-60 acceleration, though it suffers in top speed. However, speed and maneuverability alone won't get the job done or out of harm's way, so it is equipped with dual front-mounted, fully-automatic laser blasters and a large laser turret, controlled by the driver and passenger, respectively.
The front blasters are activated by a button on the wheel, while the turret is controlled using a hardwired controller. The passenger gyrates the turret using a 3D mouse in the center and activates the turret by squeezing on a deadman switch (for those not familiar with industrial controls, a deadman switch is a multi-position button mounted in the controller's grip which operators must squeeze at a certain pressure in order for a robot to operate; this is a safety feature, so robots cannot operate without anyone present, and operators can't cheat by taping the switch down either). Also on the steering wheel, is a button that will activate an energy shield that will protect the occupants inside from enemy flak. How effective it is depends on how long the shield has to recharge between activations and how much damage it has taken while activated.
For those of you late to the party, Digidogs is my current Road Rovers inspired project featuring a team of canid superheroes who keep the town of Howling Bay and abroad safe from criminals, terrorists, and even monsters. These superheroes are not dogs that turn into anthropomorphic canines by stepping into a mutation machine, but rather a group of high school students who have the ability to switch between their human and canid forms by pressing a button on their specially-made sports watches.
There are many other vehicles in the Digidogs' fleet, though I may not draw them all here; should I see this series through, you will see them as the stories progress. Despite drawing vehicles and auto races growing up, I noticed that drawing vehicles is more of a challenge than drawing my anthro or even human characters; I guess I'm more aware of certain details and proportions. However, as the rule-of-thumb goes, practice makes perfect, and as long as I revive my hobby of drawing, I will at least make my drawings look somewhat professional.
