3ds max tutorial explaining how to make volumetric clouds and smoke with a simple sphere-scatter method and procedural materials. I have also made some variants by using different procedural maps. Only basic knowledge of 3ds max is required.Related content

How would you go about making whispy steam coming out of a coffee cup? Β The way I have it now, it's so thick the coffee looks like it's boiling!

Interesting method of making smoke. Never thought of doing it this way.

Thanks. In fact, there are other ways to make it (volume fog, particles, 2D sprites with camera constraint, plugins, etc.)but they have many disadvantages. I find this way much easier and more effective.

I`m gonna try it out when I get a chance. I usually use planar particles that always face the camera. It works ok for single frames but you sometimes get some blocky effects.

Really like this tutorial, it's simple and makes the idea of creating clouds and smoke effects very easy. But, yeah, it's basic. And it's genius
