Description
This is the working/stepping out uniform worn by all officers of civilian ships (cargo ships, cruise liners, ummmm....ice breakers?) of Rocotia. There are four ranks which are further broken down into rates. The highest rank is the ship's Captain. He supervises the ship and is responsible for it. He reports only to the owner of the ship (or company that owns). The next ranking officer is the First Mate (FM). He is selected by the Captain and no longer belongs to a rate as he spends all of his time assisting the Captain with the latter's duties or supervising other day-to-day operations. The Second Mate (if there is one) is chosen from one of the Standing Officers. It is typically the Chief Navigation Officer or the Chief Engineering Officer although the Chief Medical Officer may be chosen. The Second Mate then splits his time between assisting the Captain or the FM and his own duties as a Standing Officer. The Chief Navigation Officer (CNO) is responsible for all activities and personnel that deal with navigation and is typically posted on the bridge. He is comparable to an operations officer in the RRN. The Chief Engineering Officer (CEO) is responsible for all activities and personnel that deal with the ships engines and is typically posted in the engine room. In addition to his certification, the CEO must be a certified Professional Engineer in Maritime or Mechanical Engineering. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for all activities and personnel that deal with the well being and health of the crew and is typically posted in the medical bay. In addition to his certification, the CMO must be a licensed medical doctor. Ensigns are officers that have the appropriate degrees and certifications to be an officer. Their rank is plain and bears no symbols. On their collar they wear the equatorial cross for medicine, the propeller for engineering, or the anchor for ship operations.
