Description
Not the best composure, and no playing in lightroom.A little back story to this one. Any one ever tell you not to play on train tracks? If so then you should take their advice. Basically this is a somewhat active freight line, averaging about 30 trains per day. I was off taking some pictures of the Hudson River birds, and knew a train should be coming soon. The last time the freight train used the tracks to my left.
The stupid photographer in me wanted to have this old wooden bridge in the shot and with the train passing on my left for light purposes. Well. I heard the train coming, had my Bogen tripod setup next to the right side of the tracks, only to realize that the train was using those tracks.
This is where stupidity falls into play. A rational person would have calmly walked to the other side of the tracks and taken the photos from that side. That was unacceptable to me as I had already waited an hour for the train to come and was losing patience. (It helps to mention that the reason an old wooden bridge exists is to span a small rock valley that was blasted out to make room for the train tracks. Hence no way out.) I had to pick up my gear and sprint in reverse, until I was out of the valley, setup my gear and shoot.
The CSX had two engines and I would estimate them running around 30-40mph with around 100 cars.
