If you want better control over the color and brightness of your works, I suggest replacing original Blender color management with Filmic Blender color management .
In case you want to understand why I suggest this... I watched this video (it's 30m long, but it is worth for future improvement

Thank you I used your cyclesshader from way back when and an hdri with two lights which might be why it looks so bright but I will check those links out ^^
