Description
The green tree python (Morelia viridis) is a python found in Indonesia and northern Australia. It usually grows around 1,5 - 1,8 metres long, though large females can reach 2 metres.

This arboreal species inhabits rainforest, where it can usually seen lying looped over a branch, waiting for prey to wander within range. It feeds mostly on small mammals (especially rodents), but will sometimes take reptiles as well. It captures prey by anchoring itself to a branch with its tail (which is unusually long for a snake), striking out, and then constricting it to death in typical python fashion.
It goes without saying that the green tree python is not venomous at all, nor is any other python or boa for that matter.

The green tree python lays 1-25 viable eggs. Unlike the adults, the babies are reddish brown, orange, or yellow in colour with mottled white markings upon hatching.

Although the IUCN currently lists this species as "Least Concern", the species is under some pressure from the logging industry.
