Description
Rodney, also known as Sneaky Boy, is a dinosaur Original Character(OC) that I created for the famous science-fiction franchise known as Jurassic Park. He is a two-meter tall, nearly 10-foot long velociraptor with sharp teeth, sharp claws, sickle-shaped talons, bright green raptor eyes, having scaly skin being pale green, mocha brown and white, with red and black color pattern splotches. Before the Jurassic Park was opened up on the desolated island known as Isla Nublar, one specimen, part of a new breed of velociraptor was created. This particular dinosaur grew into a fully-grown velociraptor, and was named Rodney. Being bred with a group of other velociraptors in captivity, being his siblings, Rodney learned all of his animal social skills, and developed a love interest in another female velociraptor, named Maya. When the storm struck out Isla Nublar's power, Rodney and the other dinosaurs escaped their captivity, beginning to run wild on the island. He fiercely protected his soon-to-be mate, and was planning to start a pack with her. That is, until a lone hunter, named Davis Nuttod, who had been poaching upon the island, shot and killed Maya, escaping. Rodney vowed to hunt the human down, and would exact vengeance upon him for his would-be-mate's death. Fighting his way through several other hunters, velociraptors, other dinosaurs and poachers, Rodney soon confronted Nuttod. He caught the human hunter by surprise, with Nuttod calling him a "sneaky boy". A brutal close combat fight, being knife and gun against tooth and nail ensued, at first with Davis having the upper hand, until Rodney faked his death. Having thought he claimed a very money-worthy trophy, he was caught yet again by surprise. Rodney struck fear into the hunter's heart, just before he completely tore him apart. He cared not for eating Nuttod's carcass, he merely eviscerated him, and tossed what was left of him into the sea. To this day, Rodney is a lone wolf, being distanced from most of his dinosaurian kin, and having a severe hatred of mankind. He lives on Isla Nublar to hunt, kill, and survive in a world, that he will never fully understand.
As a velociraptor, Rodney has enhanced senses of sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing, allowing him to be aware of his prey and surroundings. He possesses sharp teeth, capable of ripping and tearing through flesh with ease, and a bite force equivalent to that of a hyena, able to crush bone. His claws can easily lacerate a man, and the sickle-shaped talons on his feet are able to extend like switchblades to cut open prey. His complex heart and muscular, double-jointed legs give Rodney a very impressive speed and leaping abilities, being able to run at nearly the speed of a cheetah for several minutes, as well as jump up and forward nearly twice his height. Rodney possesses a method to camouflage. This is very similar to a chameleon in nature, being able to conceal himself among most backgrounds, and certain color changes can reflect certain emotions. With the genes of frogs filling in the gaps of his DNA like the other dinosaurs, Rodney is able to literally swap and change genders voluntarily, if needed for breeding. His most efficient advantage however, is his highly-evolved, intelligent brain. As velociraptors are said to be much more intelligent than other dinosaurs, Rodney possesses a low level of sentience, being able to develop new hunting strategies, communicate vocally with other raptors, discover how technology works, and comprehend emotions, such as anger, rage, sorrow, fear, happiness, and love. Rodney also does not merely kill for food, but also for sport. He takes much enjoyment out of inflicting pain on humans, and often brutally slays them, rather than eating them.
Rodney the velociraptor is based upon a nightmare I once had, where a friend of mine and I were on the island of Isla Nublar, being chased, so we hid in a part of the abandoned research facility. When I hid in a part of the building, I slowly and cautiously turned to look around a corner. I was frightened to see the face of a velociraptor, being Rodney, screeching and looking through the window at us, in a similar manner as the Big One behind the kitchen door in the first Jurassic Park film, then it ended. His design is based upon a discarded concept for the velociraptors from the 1997 sequel movie called The Lost World: Jurassic Park. His camouflage abilities are based upon the raptors featured in the novel canon, whereas all the velociraptors could camouflage. The goal of Rodney's character was to show that an animal as intelligent as Rodney, even though still an animal, contains levels of empathy, and will remember what you have done to him in the end. The moral of the series is simple, you cannot control the power of creation in nature, for it takes it's toll, as well as Rodney takes his. For all I am concerned for his character and the iconic series, is by remembering the memorable quote: "Life finds a way"....
