Description
I live in the US and this is in response to the 18 mass shootings in the past 9 days, particularly the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. I know that as an artist, I have zero say in the change in our society. My commentary is virtually meaningless in the sea of opinions the world has to offer. But I can say that as a human being, I am so disturbed by how often we let people slip through the cracks. How many children are we going to let die before we as a society decide that we need to help lift each other up? How many teachers need to get shot before we decide that we need a national gun registration in the digital space? How many cops will be at either end of the gun before we decide that mental health services are for absolutely everyone and not just for people with weak minds? And how long does half of our population have to be scared that the same police they call for help may cause them harm instead?Obviously, this is not a political issue. The only agenda here is to express the grief in me. This world is harsh and cold, and we have strayed so far from empathy.
And informally, this shit makes me so fucking sad. I'm normally very level-headed about the news and I can read and watch videos about war and death, but the last week of tragedies has made me cry several times. Kids don't deserve this.
