Fukes are a prolific, widespread sophont species. Their homeworld, Foke, is a small moon of a larger terrestrial with a water-solvent, but no oceans. Polar ice caps which melt with seasons and vast underground aquafers ensure life thrives. The plants of Foke use a biological solarcell system, giving them a silver luster. Vertebrates are divided into tetrapods and pentapods. The fuke race developed from the pentapod lineage, but lost their forelegs and hindmost limb. They are bipedal.
Like most other vertebrates of their home, fukes possess two heads. In the fukes themselves, they have become asymmetrical. The left head's purpose is to feed and reproduce, the right head's is to drink and manipulate. What appear to be eyes by Terran standards are acually mouths. A lid-like membrane covers the sensitive oral canal, and opens sideway to reveal the mouthparts. The 'jaws' form a protective sheild over the genitals. A specializd 'pseudophali' aids in grabing and placing food items into the mouths. The fuke's silicate eyes are at the tip of their snouts. The right head's oral canals have become dextrous, retractable drinking tubes. The flashy insides of the right jaws now function only as display. The 'brains' of fukes lay coiled within their spinal colums. A fuke shares his/her/ur body with a plant symbiont. Fukes are covered in a moss/fern like plant. The plant provides insulation and camoflauge, and removes CO2 from their blood. The fuke, in return, provides mobility, nutrients, and absorbs O from the plant. Fukes have a web-like lung system, and the symbionts have both developed extreamly efficient metabolizms. A fuke can also consume parts of the plant as a last desperate resource.
Fukes are egglayers. All fukes are born as emales, completely lacking in any functional sex organs. By gaining greater hierarchy through competition a fuke may become male, and then after higher status is acheived he may become female. About 1 in 500 emales with become males, them only 1 in 1000 will go on to become females. In baselines, emales are gray, males are white, and females are black. Fukes model government after sexual competitions, trivials, and contests, with much foreplay involved. Females can lay well over athousand eggs per year. Fukes have no sense of hearing, except in the form of very low vibrations (but these are not really interpreted as sound). They communicate through elaborate body, head, and proboscis movement as an intricate sign language. They are nomads. Fukes never stay in a single place for long. This can be applied collectively, and individually. A fuke may be a close associate of another one day, then act as if they never met the next. They have a unique form of governmental managmet free-for-all (extreme open-door policy). Infrastructure was based on set monuments and buildings in primative eras. Modern fukes carry inflatable, modular, self-mobile, or nanotech-based temporary resting shelters when needed. They have continued this behavior, and even raised it to whole new levels in the modern era of universal civilization. They would come, wander about the planet, gather information for various reasons, associate with natives, then leave without a trace. Fukes never developed motor vehicles, and ride on bodily-powered contraptions (they claim to think better when their feet are moving). They have no sense of humor, but can relate to the aei mon sense of irony.
Fukekind is very gregarious among themselves and other species. Many find they are excelent navigators, and may possess great amounts of information on many places. Many races welcome fukes when they come (or at least tolerate them), knowing they have an opportunity to get some stories out of them.They associate temporarily with other governments, industries, cultures, groups, and individuals. But don't get attatched to them, they'll be gone soon...
