Thanks :3. I used photoshop, I think CS 3 or 4 onwards has basic tween animation that you can save into Gifs but its limited, specially as photoshop uses your hard drive as a scratch disc. If I wanted to do anything more complexe than this I'd need maybe flash, I'm not sure.

I'm not sure what you would call the technique, it uses key frames and tween animation. You set up your layers how you would want the animation to start. Then create a new key frame of how you'd want it to end up. Then select them both, and use the tween function with how many frames you want it to last. This will make the transition for you, it wont work for more complex things, but for simple stuff like fades its fine.

Photoshop's gif making animation.. thing.. is really limited, it can't really handle anything that much more complex than what i've done i think.
